About
Bygones is three floors of pure nostalgia for ALL AGES! Whether it be History, Railwayana or Militaria, you will reminisce! Wander back in time, visit our authentic life-size Victorian Street, see the Blacksmith hard at work, smell the treats of the Sweetshop, listen to the hustle and bustle of Victorian life. Imagine yourself in the nursery, kitchen, parlour or even the dentist! As you meander up to the top floor, hop on the 27-ton steam engine en route! Arrive in the 20th Century, take a break in our Station Café for a range of cakes and refreshments. Marvel over our completely refurbished model railway themed around English villages in WWI and WWII. Consider your ancestors in a WWI trench or taking cover in a WWII Anderson Shelter. Don’t miss the 1950’s and 60’s shopping arcade filled with post-war packaging and household items.

This is a sweet little museum with lots of interesting artifacts. The Victorian street is very well done and (because it was Easter) there was an Easter egg hunt, which even my teenager enjoyed!

We went at 3pm and the museum was quiet. I have a disabled son and the man in the ticket office was exceptionally kind. He gave me a carer's discount and because we were unsure if we would be able to complete our visit on the day, he made our ticket an open return for the month. He even offered to turn off the soundtrack, if it would help with my son's issues.
Bygones isn't a big place and won't fill a whole day but we had a lovely couple of hours with kind, understanding staff.

I visited in April 2022 and had a thoroughly excellent visit. The memorabilia was well kept and spread out in mesmerising and contextual displays. I was amazed at the sheer amount of items that have been donated and salvaged for display; we spent a good two hours wandering around each one, ranging from Victorian era through to the 1950s, and we could have easily stayed longer had we not been up against the carpark ticket limit. Next time I will stay longer to enjoy the cafe too. I highly recommend a visit.

Great museum, you can tell the family that owns it truly loves what they do. There are even personal messages recorded by the family within the museum telling its story.

It is interactive, so well laid out, engaging and everything you would want from a museum. The attention to detail is amazing -they even have SMELLS to match the scenes as you walk through. Highly recommend a visit

We loved the old arcade machines. So much fun and good value too. There is so much to see here from prison cells to old post offices, miniature train sets to entire fair displays!
The world war bunker and trench was eerie but great for the kids to experience. We spent a good 2 hours but will be back for more. Plus they have a lovely cafe.
Staff were super friendly too.

We always visit Bygones every time we stay in Torquay. The displays do change but we also enjoy seeng the displays we have seen before - you always notice something you didn’t see last time.

It’s amazing that this is a family owned/run museum. Or rather, a family museum with a full size steam engine inside!

Look out for the paintings on the walls of the staircase. I can’t remember the name of the artist, but he/she hides a little drawing of a mouse in every painting and the challenge is to spot it.

If you think you’ve seen the waxwork of Queen Victoria on the ground floor before, that’s because she came from the now-closed wax museum in Rectory Mansion in Brading in the Isle of Wight

Thanks for your visit and review, we are pleased to hear you enjoy your return visits to our family run attraction. The artist of the steam engine paintings with the mice is Terrance Cuneo! Queen Victoria quite rightly dominates the Victorian street, you would have enjoyed seeing her sat in the passenger seat driving home from her previous residence on the Isle of Wight!
