- THFC69Berkshire, United Kingdom704 contributionsHelpful parking operative!Been before, but some years ago and not driving. Remembered the parking layout, but couldn’t find a space. Happened upon a parking chap who asked me to pull over, then directed me to additional parking area which had lots of space and a ticket machine. Even called me sir, very helpful and pleasant. Lots of eating places and bars in the RWY, worth a visit, good views.Visited March 2023Written 23 March 2023

We too had a friendly This is not a Parking Ticket notice and paid on exit. We double checked with the parking attendant who was very helpful, friendly and polite. We will ensure we pay in advance next time but would also recommend extra signage.Visited April 2023Written 15 April 2023
- barrycreek1892Dartford, United Kingdom21 contributionsOld vs NewThis is from my own experience. Others may differ. We have just come back from a 3 night stay at the Royal William Yard, I must say, what an excellent place, the moment we showed up, Rachel - our host - was fantastic and showed us around and explained everything. The apartment was a three bedroom place, and there were loads of space to relax in. Ours was at the Brewhouse. There were loads of restaurants to enjoy and even a boat service to Cornwall or to the Barbican in Plymouth.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 April 2023
- GrandTour11353673084Rushden, United Kingdom1 contributionRWY - Great Parking Supervisor - Thanks :)I stay at the RWY a lot and its always good. In particular the parking supervisor Mark is great, always very helpful. I lost my car keys last year and he was great in helping me to sort the parking issues while this was being resolved and suggesting and calling local garages to help and also just this weekend helped me to get on the parking system quickly (I had pre-paid but the letting agent hadn't actually put me on the system) helping me avoid a parking fine. Its little things like this that really enhance a stay. Many thanks Mark and your security colleague who was also vey helpful yesterday.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 April 2023

After a great meal at Wagamama (made better by the presence of ace server Connie) we met two unsung heroes of the area. Mark and Alyssa help with security parking and the huge task of keeping traffic and people flowing. They might not get reviews as often as others at the site, so this mention is just for them. Thanks for your charm and good humour with our little parking issue. It’s good nature like you showed to us that made our visit all the nicer.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 May 2023

Had a lovely lunch at The Hub and just had some time left to visit a clothes shop called ‘Identity Fashion’. (And bought a dress which wasn’t on my plan for today!) Never seen styles like it before and just wish I had time to try on more clothes. A definite place to pop in and have a look round, especially if you like being adventurous with fashion and want something unique that you won’t find in any high street store. Am looking forward to going back there but with more time to spare.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 August 2023
- charleyboy1955Nerja, Spain192 contributionsLovely stay unfortunately only for one night. We stayed overnight before the ferry crossing to Santander. The apartment was very clean and exceptionally comfortable. Being a bit of a bed linen connoisseur the linen was very very good which added to the restful night. After a long motorcycle tour we particularly appreciated the laundry facilities that got us ready for the next weeks travel. Not quite so easy to find the building location and the parking areas we were authorised to use and paid for at the time of booking but it was manageable although a bit time consuming. Well recommended as a base to stay and visit Plymouth and particularly if all you want is a 8 minute journey to the ferry port. Note that booking parking I would consider essential.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023

Yesterday, 5th March, my wife & I visited our daughter In Plymouth.
We decided to visit Royal William Yard in the afternoon and I must say it was lovely. The buildings have been restored to a lovely standard in keeping with their naval history.
We saw many places to eat including takeaways. We decide to purchase some takeaway food later that evening.
We ordered on line from Hub Box to collect at 6.10pm.
This is when our day was ruined. I drove to collect the food. I arrived at 6.10pm and parked opposite Hub Box, walked across to collect the food. I was told it would be 5 minutes. I stood in the doorway to Hub Box and within a minute or so saw a parking warden. I walked out to speak to him and apologised if I had parked incorrectly. He said that I was on double yellow lines which I could not see as it was dark. They are very poorly painted on the side of the quay. I said I would move immediately but he informed me that he had already issued a PCN for parking incorrectly. This was after just 5 minutes and 10 seconds.
I had a polite but frank discussion with the parking warden and he said he doesn’t like issuing PCN’s to people collecting food but he had to enforce the rules. I accepted that I had incorrectly parked but could not see the yellow lines in question.
I am 62 years old and have never in nearly 45 years of driving had any form of fine or ticket. Needless to say I was disappointed especially as I had only been parked in that location for less than 6 minutes.
I have paid the lower cost of £25 as per the PCN instructions. I considered appealing but am aware that such parking shark companies do not listen to appeals and only increase the cost for non-early payment.
Due to receiving a PCN for such a minor infringement does mean that we will never visit Royal William Yard again. The whole saga is wrong and even council run car parks allow a 10 minute grace period before issuing a PCN.
If Royal William Yard continue to use SIP Parking to enforce their parking rules In such a heavy handed way many more will fall foul of a minor misdemeanour.
From a very disappointed customer

Turned up and did not have a clue where to go or park. Turned round and son of satan was there....the parking meister!!! Having had a brief chat about my cluelessness he proceeded to help big time, even phoning the rental company. Great job done by Mark, help greatly appreciated and thanks. Parking in Plymouth is a quite a challenge but thanks to local help it was well sorted. GM15....

One of the best places in Plymouth to eat, stroll, drink or just people watch. The food market every month is also worth a visit!

We visited Royal William Yard with my elderly parents. My father is a blue badge holder and has mobility issues.
Mark the security attendant greeted us on arrival and advised where best to park, unfortunately that would have meant a short walk for my father so Mark kindly stayed with my parents whilst I parked the car then he advised us on the location of various eateries.
We had a lovely meal at Bistrot Pierre.
Mark spotted us leaving the restaurant and came over, my father was feeling better after some food and decided to walk back to the parked car, Mark aided him along the way.
I feel I must leave this review to credit Mark and Royal William Yard. What was a sinple lunch time meal out was made special by the friendly and kind thoughts and actions of a lovely man.
Thank you from us all.

Does the basin have 24 hour security? What are the rules for dropping off and picking up or berthing here? Are there any overnight or short term berths?

I read in the local press that ‘A three-screen boutique movie-house which will serve pizza and alcohol at screenings is also coming to the Royal William Yard’. Does anyone know know where and when this is intended to be? Will it be art house stuff or just wall projections in a bar with snack food?

Hi - Is the £10 per day parking spaces for those staying at RWY just that - £10 per day? We are assuming you can come and go as you please without paying additional cost to the £10 every day? Please can someone advise. Thank you.

Hi. We went there as come and go and the minimum carpark charges is £2 for 2 hours and the £10 is good for 24 hours. Hope that helps.

My husband was in the Royal Navy from 1957 to 1966 and is also from Plymouth originally although we now live in Hertfordshire. In October 2018 the Royal Naval Photographers Association is visiting the Dockyard and we hope to do some sightseeing around the old haunts and of course, the Photographic Section. Unfortunately, my husband is now disabled and would need a wheelchair or motor scooter to get around such a large site. What are the facilities for disabled people, and is anything other than eating places accessible please?
LeylandAtlantean
Harrogate, UK521 contributions
The majority of the Yard is on the flat and with a wheelchair is accessible. As the paths are stone flags might be a little bumpy. Apart from the eateries there is a wide waterfront walk the looks out over the estuary.
The only bit that isn't readily accessible is the lookout point at the end of the promontory - that is accessed by a flight of stairs.
There is plenty of disabled car parking as far as I remember.

When does the monthly food market happen (obviously monthly, but which day)?
Jannerbloke

First Sunday. But be aware of the parking problems and the expensive studied presentation. It's all a it precious and neither abundant or competitive. You need to go at least once to get the measure of the performance/promenade.

Are there any short term or overnight visitor's berths in the basin?
There is information on berths on the official website, under the 'Getting Here' > 'Mooring Tariff' page. (the official website url ends in com rather org so just check you are on the right website).

I will be staying on holiday for one week at Royal William Yard, Plymouth, and have noticed posts on the difficulty on parking and the costs involved.
Can anyone please advise. Any advise will be appreciated.
Emma110798

At the Royal William Yard there are some spaces in and around the area that is easy to find.
In the Royal William Yard, you can pay online, by SMS or on a machine when you get there. It uses the ParkREG system. This allows a convenient method of paying for your parking in advance.
As for the costs, it says that it is £1 per hour. Since you mentioned that you would be staying for a week, there is an option to buy a week's permit for £40.
The Royal William Yard website is useful, which also gives links to the ParkREG website and that will inform you how it works if you want to know more.
Hope this helps!
