Situated on the upper north western slopes of Mount Lebanon, ranging in altitude from 1200 m to 2000, Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve covers more than 450 ha and is considered as a very important part of the country for its unique biodiversity.
Extending over 3 bio-geographic zones, the forest assembles different species of mammals, birds and plants of which some are nationally rare and threatened such as the imperial eagle and wolf.
The amount of plant species recognized till now accounts for nearly 40% of plant species in Lebanon.
Nowadays, the municipality of Ehden, owner of Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve’s land, is according much more attention on the reserve for its particular importance:
- Outstanding example of Cedrus libani forest (diversity of age classes and species diversity)
- Outstanding ecological condition (minimum degradation and pollution…)
- Habitat of rare, national and threatened animal and plant species
- Potentially outstanding high quality visitor experience in a forest
- 1,058 plant species
- More than 27 mammals species representing the third of the mammals in Lebanon
- Over 300 fungi species which are critical to maintain a healthy forest ecosystem.
Thus, Horsh Ehden is an outstanding example of Lebanese and Mediterranean natural ecosystem especially for its diversity of Cedars and other native plant species.

2 Adults and 2 kids with a map in our hands, we decided to walk the mountain. The map and signs were very clear. It was very safe and challenging. At some point we reached a water source. We drunk the fresh water and decided after two and a half hours to come down from the mountain. I will post some pictures, to express better our experience.

If you’re interested in a good hike near the clouds, this is the destination for you. Weather was 11 degrees less than Beirut and the view is breathtaking.

I come from Ehden and Horsh Ehden Natural Reserve is our proud. We consider it as our escape zone from daily stress and civilized world. Whenever I am in Ehden, I try to Walk/Run/Trek/Hike in this beautiful natural space. Surprisingly, I am discovering something new with each visit (flowers, eagle, trees, new type of birds and even new sunset painting). Spring season is astonishing with its colors, Summer is amazing with birds chanting, Winter is breathtaking and by Fall srason you will fell in love with this Horsh.
This is defenitly a must seen place in Ehden but please follow the rules whenever u enter there.

A fabulous hike in one of the two most beautiful Cedars Forest in Lebanon! Very well Organized for us by Ehden Adventures. We were given a choice of several levels of hikes and this 2 hours moderate level hike was perfect for us.

Very nice reserve with cedar and pine trees. The hike is very nice too, a bit of climbing (25min) then straight and descent. Drink natural water from the springs. Take amazing photos.

It is calm, clean and very beautiful. One should do the trip and discover this reserve. Thank God there are still very few places where you can breath clean.

Unforgettable experience for all ages...I did only 1,2 and 3 trails because of kids, but, for sure, I will come back and do all. Beautiful places, silence disturbed only by birds..Clouds were coming from above embracing the trees and felt like touching them. Trail no 1 not so difficult, just be careful to dress properly and have water (at least until you reach Ain Naasa) and some sweets. Trail no 3, personally, I found it more beautiful (pathways through the forest) and trail no 2, very easy road. You can stay overnight in chalet. I was surprised to meet more foreigners (Belgium, France, Germany, Canada), rather than Lebanese. What else to underline: clean pathways (there is a bin near Ain Naasa). I spent around 3 hours there. You should not miss this!

A beautiful am spent at the reserve! we had so much fun with a group of friends hiking in the reserve. We were received by dedicated rangers who explained how the hike would go, what to do in specific cases and where to go.
We took road 8 , and arrived to the water source
it was great

My favorite natural reserve in Lebanon, First part of it is steep and exhausting, but beyond that, you'll be in awe! Great for all ages, different trails of different levels.
