This was a nice winery to see how local producers work in this area. The owner really took the time to explain the production process & the differences between the wines, and to show us around. We also could taste all of the wines (for free) and ended up buying some. Nothing fancy though, just a really nice local winery. Fully enjoyed the visit.

We visited this winery on the recommendation of our B&B host. Even though Andrea (one of the owners) must have realised that we were on holidays & couldn't buy too much he was incredibly hospitable. He put out a plate of delicious cheese & salami and spent a long time explaining & showing us his wines. We were all very impressed with the quality & good value of the wine (most expensive bottle was €17) and we bought as much wine as we could drink over the next few days (7 bottles). We definitely would liked to have bought more!!

We were staying in Refrancore for six days and needed to stock up on some wine for the week, so the owner of our rental house (Casa Regina) took us along to Goggiano Winery, located right in the village, to sample some local wines.

We had a great time discussing wine-making techniques and sampling some quality, everyday drinking Piemonte wines, accompanied by some fine parmigiano cheese. Barbara d'Asti, Dolcetto d'Alba and Barolo and the local grape Ruche were available and all, except for the Barolo at €16.70, were well under €10 a bottle. Amazing prices, really.

Needless to say we made sure we had more than enough to get through the week and also stocked the car for the eventual trip back to London.

Highly recommended.

Thanks.

We had a wonderful time with one of the owners. He gave us an excellent overview of a modern wine production and let us taste a selection of his wines with some snacks.

The owners are very friendly and make time to show you around. It's obvious they are very proud of their business and rightly so! The wines are great (personally I think one of the best price/quality ratio in the entire Piemonte).
Definitely worth a visit and don't forget to buy some of their red gold :-)

Some of the best wines in Asti! Quality, price and range is extensive. The owners speak English and are extremely helpful, I would recomment a visit.

It is a small and unassuming place and don't like the lack if signs fool you. Venture inside and say hi to the brothers whom own and operates. Very friendly people and they will be glad to give you a quick private tour. Must try the local wine and they are great and wonderful values. Buy some to drink while you are in Italy and make sure you bring some home too. Small production every year hence they only sell a small amount in Europe.

The hilly territory on the left bank of the river Tanaro, in the province of Asti, is a little less known for its vines and wine production, in comparison with the right and southern bank, the so-called “Alto Monferrato”, that with the adjoining “Langhe” territory is home of some of the best wines in the whole world. Nevertheless, these smooth and sandy hills can produce top quality wines as well, even with some interesting curiosities. Beside the well known “Barbera”, here it is possible to find, for instance, the lovely “Grignolino”, a light and fresh pale red wine, a gentle alternative to stronger glasses, nice to serve lightly chilled in summer accompanying seafood too. Another local grape is the “Ruché”, produced in a very small area north-west of Asti, a serious and complex wine, good just for meditation or for important meat and cheese dishes.
The Goggiano winery is located in Refrancore, a tiny village about 10 Km far from Asti. Its production covers most of the local traditional wines, all with a very good quality and reasonable prices. The best labels are however:
-Barbera superiore (aged 4 years and over) “Piasì”
- Barbera superiore “Bricco Meli”
- Grignolino d’Asti
- Ruché di Castagnole “Fiurin”
It is possible to visit the winery nearly at all times, the owners are always very kind and happy to let visitors taste their wines and explain details about the production.
Refrancore is also well known for the production of particular biscuits with a slight anise taste, called “Finocchini” that are best tasted when rapidly sinked in a glass of Grignolino!
