    Interesting museum.
We were on the scenic train from Nice up to the Alps, and stopped off in Tende for lunch and some exploring. We popped into the museum to learn more about the petroglyphs in the area. . .so glad we did! For a small museum, it certainly packs in the knowledge. We enjoyed reading all about the archaeological finds and varying interpretations of the petroglyphs. It is a rare and interesting glimpse into the past.

    Fascinating, modern, informative
The museum was exceptionally informative and nicely displayed. The young man who greeted us took time to briefly explain the collection and loan us a very helpful book in English. It was well worth the time we spent there.

    Quick museum visit
Quick stop passing by to kill time while we waited for our lunch booking. Nice museum and loads of facts the tour guide told us. Only thing with it, was that there was no English signs so I couldn’t read it. So basically got all the information from our tour guide. Even I wanted to go off alone and look couldn’t know what the fact was about. That’s the only downside to the museum.

Lovely museum explaining history of local area. Plenty to see-with comprehensive information in multiple languages. Great place to stop in town.

Fantastic museum. Great exhibits. Sadly, it's mostly in French but it's still worth 5 stars. October 2022.

This museum opens up the history and geography of the region, explaining the significance of the nearby rock carvings and settlement over the last 5000 years.
Extensive captions are provided in French, with only a few in English/Italian (for the dioramas).
I’m still trying to decide if you should visit the museum BEFORE you hike into the Vallée des Merveilles or AFTER. On the one hand, having background knowledge of the region would be useful when you’re exploring the rock carvings. On the other, having visited the rock carvings, it’s good to consolidate your understanding. Regardless, I recommend the museum.

On our tour to Tende ( The Barogue Royal Route ), we had time to visit this museum which actually unexpected.
The display was very professional, and even though most explainations was in French ( the staff at the museum stated more information coming ), our guide Samuel was very informative.
This was a gem - great solution.
We were very happy to have been able to visit this site.

Recently opened, it is a state-of-the-art archaeological and ethnological institution, with lots of exhibits related to the nearby Vallée des Merveilles, a very important achaeological site discovered only in the nineties. Beautiful dioramas, kids' corners with educational games, several amazing audiovisuals and, like all state museums in France, free for all.

Our time here was rather limited as we had just come up from Nice by train for the day. The exhibits were excellent, and provided a lot of insight into the geography, geology and history of the park. I just wish we had had more time to see all the exhibits!

This quite modern museum is truly a learning center. While hiking in our group visited the museum on a recovery day and then returned at the end of our stay. If only other museums were as so good I would become a less reluctant visitor.
