The former building of the contemporary city hall was built in 1524-1529 (architect Johannes Schoner). Repeatedly a great fire broke out in Hammelburg, the last one in1854. This destroyed the town hall as it burnt out to the foundations. Rebuilt on its basement vaults and staircase Tower in neo-Gothic style (same architect). The beautiful renaissance fountain with the Baroque baldaquin in front of the city hall escaped from the fireand had been preserved.…
