Located between Selfoss and Hella a short drive off the ring road. Found these falls by chance and proved a good choice for a short break. The car parking area is on the left after descending a steep hill and is free. Enough room for 20 - 30 cars but other than a couple of picnic tables there are no facilities. The viewing area overlooks the falls with a trail leading off downstream for a few hundred metres to give alternative views. We visited during a cold spell with the main falls frozen resulting in some incredible ice formations. This is well worth a visit to break up a journey east. You could view the area in about half hour.

We knew that this waterfall was supposed to be just off the main road. Unfortunately we managed to sail by the entrance to the parking area, continuing almost 10 km along an unpaved road. Using google maps we realised our mistake and turned round, retracing our journey. The waterfall was a spectacular sight - the most voluminous in Iceland. There was a short paved trail to walk along to get different perspectives of the waterfall with anglers trying to catch fish along the rocky shore. There was one picnic bench which was very useful for our morning refreshments with the fantastic view. If you wish to visit these falls and want to avoid our mistake, note that the car park is about 2 km after you leave the ring road. Where the tarmac ends, the car park is to your left. You can’t miss it!

This was a random addition to itinerary and I’ve got to say I preferred this to Gulfoss which is the more famous waterfall.
New car park and boardwalk and only a couple of other people when we arrived about 5PM so better for couples - romantic sight.
Need to see soon as tall of installing a hydro plant soon 😞

Good 1st stop on a Ring Road tour. Easy to access. Requires no more than 15-30 minutes. Exciting to see as a 1st waterfall, but may be underwhelming compared to others you will see on the Ring Road. Make it a quick photo opp. Few people there adds to the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Less than a 5 minute drive from Ring Road / Route 1, this large, voluminous, fast moving waterfall is very impressive, especially in winter with the ice. Well worth the short detour to spend maybe 10 - 15 minutes walking around. Note - there are no facilities at the parking lot.

Very spectacular waterfall. No buses of tourists here. Definitely worth it. Free parking. There was an icy gale that made it difficult to stand! The water from the waterfall splashed onto the walking path alongside it.

I am driving from blue lagoon area to vik and it’s a good pit stop to merely stretch the leg and it’s a free and beautiful somehow not that popular waterfall. For this I gave five stars! So I spent like 15 mins to snap a couple pictures and walk around. I like the area

These falls are really large and spectacular. The volume of water is impressive. The sight is worth the drive to see and is included in many of the package tours available in Reykjavik. Well worth seeing and experiencing.

Among our favorite waterfalls for several reasons. We went somewhat early (before 9) and had the place to ourselves. We liked its easy accessibility, great views, and that we were off the beaten path. The falls are huge but less dramatic than others. Perhaps that’s why we got to enjoy this solitary interlude.

This waterfall is just off the main ring road, easy to drive to. Free car parking and a short walk down to the falls.
We had slightly brown darker water whilst there. This is where they have had so much rain and bad weather recently.
Worth a little visit if your passing on the ring road. Would probably spend 10-15 minutes here.
