About
This elevated area offers panoramic views of Old Quebec and the St. Lawrence River. Winter adrenalin junkies line up by the thousands at Les Glissades de la Terrasse to experience the rush of zooming downhill from 270 feet high (82 meters) in a toboggan speeding up to 60 mph (90 kilometers per hour) to the bottom 500 feet (152 meters) away. Located on the Dufferin Terrace overlooking the St. Lawrence River behind Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, the ride is open from mid-December through late March.

A sprawling space to the south of the Chateau Frontenac, it affords good views of the St Lawrence River and glimpses of the Lower Town below. It is definitely a place to chill and people watch. Beneath the terrace for history buffs are the ruins of the original Fort St Louis. The terrace connects to the Governors’ Promenade at its western end, the toboggan run nearby. Cannons just add to the atmosphere.

Right in front of the most photographed hotel in the world (Chateau Frontenac), this is a great spot to relax and enjoy the view of the river. The terrace wraps around the hotel, facing the Citadel. You can get here by riding the Funicular cable car, walking directly up the 310 steps of “The Breakneck Stairs”, or walking the longer way around the stairs up near the great huge mural.

This is the boardwalk to the side of Hotel Frontenac and we were there on a beautiful day as part of a tour of the Old City. Great to view the St Lawrence River and for people watching. The guide did discuss the slide at the end for the winter to slide down onto the snow/ice in the winter. Very enjoyable.

The elevated terrace offers beautiful views of Old Town Quebec City and the St. Lawrence River. Towards the end of the terrace is an toboggan run that looks like a blast in the winter! Benches line the railing so you can sit, relax and watch the happenings nearby. We enjoyed watching the boat traffic on the St. Lawrence River while we drank our coffee. Sometimes, there were musicians singing and/or playing instruments.

Visited dufferin terrace in the evening and then back in the morning - its still a great place to take a stroll and go out for a romantic walk w/ your significant other.
Cute spot to take a walk at night and great place to take photos from in the morning.
Gets crowded in daytime and until early evening.

Great city views! We visited in April during a few cold, wet, windy days, so there were no crowds or activities. It’s beautiful at night!

It was the Thursday night when we were there... They were spectacular. I believe the rest of August is Thursdays and Saturday evenings. It started around 9:30pm or so.

To the left of Chateau Frontenac if you are facing the St. Lawrence River.

Is the Terrasse Dufferrin the same as the Promenade du Gouvernuers?

The Terrace Dufferin is the very large boardwalk that runs in front of the magnificent Chateau Frontenac. As you walk down the boardwalk to the east it narrows and then you come to a set of stairs that go up the side of the cliffs to the Promenade des Gouverneurs at the top - actually a part of the Citadelle. At the very top you can see the very best view in Quebec from the perfectly placed Cap Diamants - just in front of the Governor General's residence in the Citadelle. So - in fact - the Promenade is the upper extension of the Dufferin Terrace. Certainly well worth the climb.
