This trail offers some excellent hiking and views of Banff, but don't go here if you want to be alone with nature. I've hiked it twice in the past three years and each time it was pretty crowded.

Easily accessible and mildly challenging trail/hike up tunnel mountain within the town of Banff. Very enjoyable hike that offered many excellent views of Banff and the surrounding valley and mountains from various points along the trail. Be prepared to take a series of brief breaks...More

Saw some wild animals, really really nice view in the morning with the sunrise, on both sides ! Quite easy to go up, it's not really steep, and you can even run down if you're careful !

Tunnel Mountain is a definite no brainer if you have kids or grandparents in town. This hike has nice and easy switch back trails the whole way to the top where a gorgeous view of the townsite and surrounding mountian ranges await. Take a picnic...More

It took us about 40 min to make it to the top of Tunnel Mountain. The beginning parts of the trail are a little steep, but they taper of into a nice steady incline. Make sure you wear good shoes and bring water. At the...More

Conveniently located trailhead. I did this in October and it was slightly icy but still doable with the adequate shoes. Moderate difficulty. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. Great views of Banff and the surrounding area from the top.

We hike from the upper trailhead to Bow Falls then through town and back up Tunnel Mountain road. It was a long round trip but had great views of the falls and the Banff Springs Hotel.

Tunnel Mountain is practically in Banff town so as such it's a popular hike with a lot of people. It is well marked, easy to find but a bit crowded for our liking. If you are not staying in Banff, parking may be a problem.

This is a great family trail. The trail is well built and maintained, with an easy slope. We've seen people of all ages manage it. Also, it is very popular, so you will likely always have people about. And the views are a... More

For Tunnel Mountain Trail, the likelihood of a bear encounter is low, not impossible, but low. We have bear spray always with us, but always rely on our own noise (chatter, and just calling out frequently) to alert all... More
