Extremely impressive and 100% worth visiting. In my opinion, more interesting and beautiful than the cathedral itself.

Such a majestic display. The message of the catholic church where “the rich will not go to heaven” crashes with the striking display of gold pleated walls. Very beautiful place worth visiting, regardless of your faith.

It's rare that I am jaw-dropped, but Capilla del Rosario, Templo de Santo Domingo did that to me. As in, Sam Neill seeing dinosaurs for the first time jaw-dropped. If possible, try to hang around long enough to be there when no one else is in there (shouldn't be too hard, as somehow the crowds were light when we were there - on a Sunday morning!) Be sure to check their Facebook page ahead of time, as they are only open a few hours at a time, and they're different every day, depending on if there is a special service. Fortunately it worked out just fine for us, and I'm so glad it did, as it was a highlight of our trip.

Beautiful chapel! The gate was opened, and for a reasonable fee we went inside. This chapel is small, but very pretty.

Supposedly, the Church of Santo Domingo and its famous Capilla del Rosario open to visitors at 3:00 Sunday. However, we had to stand in line for 20 minutes. There were only six people ahead of us, but the nun managing the gate didn’t open it until 3:10, and we had to wait to enter until the previous six people had been inside ten minutes. Another complication (but also an interesting element) was that the Capilla del Rosario was being prepared for a fancy wedding for which the participants were gathering as we waited. We were allowed to tour the main church, with its handsome altar featuring polychrome statues of 18 saints, but we had to peer at the chapel from 20 feet back in the transept. That was enough for us to appreciate the effect – layer upon layer of glittering gilded plaster, an over-the-top display of the most elaborate Mexican Baroque.

In Mexico they say: No todo lo que brilla es oro. Except when you are in this place, because everything that shines here, is gold. A most place to visit while in Puebla!

It is officially a treasure of architecture in all of Mexico (i would say in all of the Americas)! Seldom you would see so much love put into the building and decoration of a chapel. Spanish Baroque dominates the many styles employed in this chapel. When Covid is over, the chapel makes a perfect place to quietly pray a rosary. During Covid though, a strict policy of only 4 people can come in at once, and you are encouraged to make your visit efficiently to provide a chance for others, So plan for extra time. During Covid, visits start at 11:00 AM, regardless of what other older sources may state. The chapel is inside the Church of "Santo Domingo de Guzman" (St. Dominic). This is important when asking for directions. Enjoy your visit!

Hola Pilgrim,

I am seeing conflicting information about whether the chapel is open on Sunday mornings. Their official website says 9:00–10:45 on Sundays, Tripadvisor says 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, and comments on here and elsewhere say otherwise.
Anyone been there lately to confirm if it is in fact open to visitors on Sunday mornings? My itinerary depends on this, as I'll only be there from 8 AM to - 12 PM on a Sunday!

Saludos.

If your hotel is close to the Zocalo or close to the Center of the city you can walk, if you are not in the area you can take a taxi
