- Eme3 contributionsBest beach for family with small children!Really nice beach and great for small children, waves can get a little crazy close to the afternoon but if you know how to swim it’s fine. My 7 and 9 year old had a lot of fun playing w the waves and swimming w the fishes. Parking is good also and the walkway from the parking to the beach makes it easy to get to beach. No food and souvenir vendors which made it nice and enjoyable not getting hassled every 5 minutes, only at the entrance of the beach there’s an umbrella and chair rentals, about $5 for a chair we had our own umbrella so we didn’t rent one but they were about $15 to rent an umbrella. Take your own food and drinks and enjoy the beach it was one of our favorite beaches!!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 July 2023
- CantergrovegalKennewick, Washington79 contributionsStill a gem of a beach but…We had previously visited Chileno 7&8 years ago. Since then, progress has occurred which means dirt roads, parking area and pathways are now paved/asphalted. A restroom and outdoor showers are now in place. The beach is still nice for families; just a whole lot more people here than previously. That’s the only reason for my 4-star review (it was a 5 when we last came).Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 28 July 2023
- Eddie Z3 contributionsGreat swimming beach!Great swimming beach and the water was crystal clear. There were waves but so so big that a 5 year-old couldn’t get in the water and swim around and have fun. Get there early to save a good spot on the beach because it gets pretty full. There are umbrellas and snorkeling gear for rent. There aren’t any food stands so pack snacks and drinks. Ample parking. Boat tours start showing up and anchoring off shore mid morning which contributes to the crowd.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 August 2023

- OcasionalTraveler38 contributionsGreat place for snorkeling in shallow water with small kidsPerfect beach for snorkeling in shallow water with young kids. We didn't go far from the shore but many people did and spent tons of time there, so it's probably a good spot for that as well. Bathrooms are relatively clean. The sand is not smooth, it's mostly tiny sharp rocks - the water shoes were very helpful. One night we visited this beach for star gazing and it was AMAZING!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 December 2023

Chairs, towels and umbrella is a good idea also. You can rent chairs and an umbrella if needed. This was by far the best day I had on vacation. I took an Uber to Chileano Beach and we had a blast. The water is beautiful and clear. No vendors harassing you in the beach! Perfect!

How much does it cost to rent snorkel gear?
OcasionalTraveler
Calgary, Alberta, Canada38 contributions
About $200 Mx pesos but my husband said he wouldn't use the gear even if it was for free :(
You may want to swing by Walmart and get a set if you are staying for few days. For Playa El Chileno all you need are the goggles - the fish are just there, few steps from the shore.
WRT the huge umbrellas for the beach, instead of paying ~$300 Mx pesos for each rental, just go to Walmart or Costco and get a decent one for $700 to $1000 Mx. Apparently there are also few Facebook groups where people resell their umbrellas so you can get some of your $ back.
Save your $$ to enjoy great food or fun activities! I hope this helps, have fun!

As of 2021, what are the hours of Chileno Beach? Does it close at a certain time? I am asking because I want to go to the beach to see the sunset.

Is taking an uber to the marina to use water taxi to go to the lovers beach, the best way to go? I'm bringing my 3 kids and on a budget they are excited to go snorkeling. Any good tips or advice how to get around I don't want to get lost.

The snorkeling at Lovers Beach/ Pelican Rock is pretty good. For the $20 I would take a water taxi tour and have him drop you off at Lovers. The magnificent sights of the arch, etc and possible sea life such as sea lions and dolphins are to great to miss out on. Water taxis are plentiful and should be cheap considering no cruise ships. Go to the marina on non-cruise ship days for the best negotiated price.
Chilenos is pretty good but it is a long way from the marina. Big beach though and go for a walk beyond the rocks on the east side(left). Uber is a cheap form of transport and easy to use but can only pick you up outside of the hotel grounds.
