we were able to enjoy the little crescent, white sand, teal beach by the kindness of a security man as the whole of James Bond Beach rec area is closed. It is certainly falling into disrepair, but the bones are absolutely phenomenal and talk of resurrection is everywhere. If a wise investor/developer reopens this beautiful treasure, do NOT miss going

If you are a Bond fan, this is worth a stop off. Both the fishing vessel and yacht used are there and you can take a dip in some lovely clean water.
The nearby town of Oracabessa is a busting little place which is worth a stroll around and a good Red Stripe stop off.
Don’t expect a licence to thrill but if you are in the area, go take a look

We were staying nearby and walked over to check it out. Not much to see really. Very small beach. The bar was ok and the red stripe was cold.

We were staying at a villa nearby and walked over one morning for a visit. The place has 2 small beaches, one is nice clean with a beach bar nearby and the other is a smaller beach that could use a cleaning. It was an ok beach to visit but not quite what we expected.

Nice beach and fun for the 007 enthusiast to visit. Sadly a lot of plastic and other garbage washes up and there is no clean up being done. The waterfalls on the eastern end of the beach are very nice and quite cold being fed from the mountain run-off.

You must go if you like the more Jamican feel. Clean beach and we had fun watching the sand crabs. Bar on premises! Well of course!

Maybe because it was off season, but there was pretty much no one at this beach. It's down a bit of a rough dirt road and you don't know you're there until you're there. A nominal fee for entry gets you onto the property and access to the two beaches.
Decent restrooms and outdoor showers, no real changing facilities to speak of. There's a port side beach-with amazing blue water, and a sea side beach. No real activities/amenities at the port side other than a few picnic tables. The sea side has more chairs and the paddle board/kayak rental place. The restaurant is closer to the sea side and I think you could do some decent snorkeling there as the reef is just out a bit. All activities are decently priced.
Restaurant was delicious. Typical Jamaican fare, cooked to order so expect to wait 20-30 minutes for your order. It was worth the wait.
There is also a dive shop. Nice place to go with children.

Visiting Ocho Rios next January on a cruise. Want to visit James Bond Beach. Are local taxis reliable - esp at picking you up to take you back to the ship? Or can anyone recommend a private driver & prices please? Thanks.

Firstly, if you are coming to Jam by Cruise, this might not be the best destination for you unless you like quiet and low usage places. Nor is it a tourist poster picture beach. We like it because we avoid the Cruise ship crowds and as we have our own car on the island, we can bring everything that we might want like food etc.
To answer your question, yes taxis are liberally available. You can hail them at the port gates. or a short walk into the centre of Ocho will increase availability. Bear in mind that the habit in Jam is for taxi sharing. The driver will seek to fill the car completely, picking up and setting down people all along a set route. This means that you will not be dropped at the beach entrance itself [it is down a half mile rough track from the main road] and if your party is large, it could make your return less easy [hailing a taxi with enough free seats]. They will also not be geared up for US$ and any change [if any] given for dollars will be in local currency. US$ are readily [if not eagerly] accepted, and you can also hire a taxi for a day. It costs more though.
An alternative especially suitable for larger parties is to hire a JUTA [Jamaica Urban Transport Association] mini-bus. Their owner-drivers have to maintain high customer service and vehicular standards [there are none for taxis!!!] and are not limited to set routes. Cruise information desk should be able to give you a contact number and or google search. JUTA buses lurk outside the port gates looking for custom at Montego Bay, but we have not seen them at Ocho Rios [lack of space to lurk].
What beaches would we recommend?
I would avoid Bamboo Beach [ar Mammee Bay] because it is very crowded with cruise passengers, but provides all facilities that you might want [including large inflatable play floats] and might be a available as a tour option from you cruise operator. For a large beach more closely matching the travel poster ideal with good supporting facilities, choose Bamboo Village [same business?]. Both will charge for entrance.
For a quieter, FREE beach try Pleasure Beach at White River. It shares a nice small bay with an All-Inclusive and has good bar restaurant abutting the beach [we - and locals - go there purely to eat sometimes]. Unlikely to be deserted but very unlikely to be crowded. Not far from main road along a good road / track [comfortably walkable from main road, so taxi is a fair option. Not far from Ocho centre.
Hope this helps
Can ppl who visited this attraction stayed overnight??

Can anyone remember the name of the private tour companies they used & would recommend to take them to the beach from Ocho Rios? We will be visiting on a cruise next January & have read the reviews about not trusting local taxis. Also I enjoy planning & like to have things sorted before we cross the Pond. Thanks.

We were also on a cruise, and we took a taxi which was O.K. until we were going to pay because then the taxidriver said that the price was per person and not for the couple we were.

Can you rent lounge chairs and umbrellas?

They have chairs not sure about umbrellas but they are tearing down the hotel and rebuilding there so I would check if it's even open during this time.

What is the cost to use the beach. Can it accommodate a church trip, are we allowed to take our own food.

The grounds are plenty big to hold a church outing. Not sure about bringing a large amount of food in but calling them would be the best way to find out. 1-876-975-3665

Hi I got a very positive response from one other visitor. Thinking of just getting off the ship and asking for a taxi driver to take us. Any idea of what to expect taxi fare? Are taxi's readily available in the area to get back to our ship? Lounge chairs available, what do they charge for loungers? Many thanks fellow sun worshipers.

Sorry cannot help here. Seven of us were staying at Montego Bay and hired a driver for the day to visit James Bond Beach and other attractions in the area.

How far is this beach from the Cruise Ship Port in Ocho Rios? can you get there by boat or taxi better?
guessing there are no sun loungers there?
We are there just one day would this be the best beach to visit?

I would agree with the other person it's about 20 minutes and a taxi will take you. I like it better then the other beaches mentioned because it's less crowded.
Service was excellent and the kids enjoyed it as well. There is a lot to see and some of my favourite pictures were taken here. Some great views and it's historical literary value is a bonus.
