We traveled to the Great Smoky Mountains early Oct 2018. Newfound Gap Road was the second journey we took outside of Gatlinburg. It's curvy and takes you up into the mountains where you can meet up with the Appalachian Trail or take a Chimney Tops...More

This road is a great drive! It has lots of pull over places which are worth stopping to have a look at. We enjoyed this more than the Roaring fork motor trail!

We drove up the mountain to a beautiful overlook! There are restrooms there too. It is a totally different experience than cades cove, which I love!

The winding road has water and tunnels and beautiful views of valleys. It it like a 20 mile hike. You end up at the border between TN and NC with the Appalachian trail head right there..

The views at the different scenic overlooks are breathtaking, the woods during the drive up & down the mountain are beautiful, Alot of curves to take slowly.

If you're just doing a quick stay in the area and aren't going all the way to the Blue ridge parkway, this is a small look at what you're gonna miss if you just stay in town.

There is plenty of parking at this trail access. The trail here consists of the Newfound Gap trailhead and the AT trailhead. The Newfound Gap trailhead leads to Clingmans Dome. The AT trailhead is 1000+ miles which lead to Maine.

The drive on Newfound Gap Road is an amazing adventure with breathtaking views around every bend. There are plenty of wonderful places to pull off for hiking, picnics, photo opportunities or just to simply soak in all of God's natural splendor.
