This is a little gem tucked right behind downtown Gatlinburg. It is hard to believe this beautiful nature area sits just a few feet away from the hustle & bustle of Downtown Gatlinburg. You can drive or walk thru & there are stops along the...More

Visiting our friends that live near Knoxville, we decided to take a little drive and do some sight seeing. We were all so glad that we chose Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail! What a beautiful drive. We stopped a couple of times and wandered on...More

Take the time to drive through this trail. It’s a beautiful way to see the forest. Drive slowly or you’ll miss waterfalls and flowing streams. Pull off on one of the parking spaces and walk to the sites- the cabins, the streams, the bridges. Walk...More

This is a great escape into the woods right off the heart of Gatlinburg. If you don’t have the time to make the drive to Cade’s Cove, we strongly recommend Roaring Forks Nature Trail Drive. You can make an hour of it or a day....More

This motor drive is so much different than the Cades Cove drive but well worth it. It's definitely less crowded than Cades Cove so it's a good drive for a weekend. We really enjoyed it & we will definitely add this to our must do...More

Fall colors were gorgeous at the beginning of November. This was one of my husband and I's favorite drives in the Smoky Mountains. We started the drive at 9 am and finished about 12:30pm. Stopped for The Grotto Falls hike as well as a few...More

After hiking Mt. LeConte, my feet were quite sore (from previous surgeries and ongoing issues). So, we took the ride on the motor trail. The waterfalls, streams, and wildlife are absolutely gorgeous--and we didn't have to take one more step! Plus, the ride is free!

We drove this way to hike Grotto Falls and it was so beautiful. The drive alone is worth it even if you aren't going hiking. Lots of beautiful scenery and water features and bridges to cross over.

We have done this drive two times. We did not see any wildlife this time, but it's nature, you can't predict it. We love the village shops at the end of the drive. It's close to Gatlinburg.

There are restroom facilities at both Rainbow Falls and Grotto Falls parking areas as well as Ely's at the end of the motor nature trail. Don't expect modern facilities as these are pit toilets with hand sanitizer in each... More

The weekends may see more traffic in August, so I would try a weekday morning for fewer people and more wildlife spottings.

The road is narrow. If you get an early start there is not a problem. By mid morning the parking lot for the trailhead for Grotto Falls is full and people start parking along the one way road wherever they want. It really... More
