Just a short walk from Metcalf Bottoms Picnic area or drive up the gravel road. The one room school is setup to look like it is still in use. Apparently, at times the park has historical presentations but not on the day we visited. Recommended...More

This old school, built c. 1882, is well worth the side trip, whether by road or trail. It's in a pretty little setting with a creek and cemetery nearby. There is a decent sized parking lot with plenty of turnaround room. Unfortunately, vandals have defaced...More

To hike here, park at Metcalf Bottoms picnic area. Go over the bridge and the trailhead is right past it on the right side. From here it is .6 mile quiet hike. Follow the gravel trail up the hill (this is the worst part but...More

We were awed at the size of the boards used in building this schoolhouse. The road into it is a bit scary, very narrow with no room to pull over and pass oncoming cars. Next time, I'll walk. Go on a Tuesday when park volunteer...More

We were able to drive to the small area. The school is a look back into the past and history is interesting. The small cemetery makes one reflect upon how rough life was - so many markers for babies and young children. The whole small...More

We were here in early spring, the road to the schoolhouse was closed to cars but it's a short hike up from the main road. The cemetery is really interesting, the schoolhouse is nice but has lots of graffiti from past decades.

There's a path from Metcalf Bottoms up to the Little Greenbriar schoolhouse and cemetery. From there you can take a short walk up to the Walker Sister homestead. They were the last living settlers in the park. There is also a road to drive up...More
