Visiting this school is a must-see even though the road is one lane and gravel. This old school has the old desks and blackboards still in place. There is also an old graveyard right beside the school.

This place was nice to stop at. No one was there. Walk around and go by the water. It is only a one lane road going back to this though.

This is such a neat place. You can drive or walk. It was fun to go inside and sit in the desks. They had etchings from former students. It helps you to see how life use to be.

We visited Greenbrier for the first time this summer. Due to health reasons, we drove, which was an experience -- one lane road, two-way traffic, but fortunately met no one going in or our. There were schools of butterflies all around, just sitting and asking...More

This was my first trip back to the school house since I took my last private Christian school class of 4th and 7th graders for an annual visit nearly 40 years ago. I taught my own lesson then. Today, I was the student as Robin...More

This ramshackle one-room schoolhouse really transported us back through time. The very peaceful setting gave this place of long ago learning a sense of dignity and well deserved wisdom.

Loved the drive and the history. Changing leaves made it more beautiful. Traffic was slow and bumper to bumper.

As a retired teacher, it is always enjoyable to see historical sites of past education. You can imagine mountain children coming out of the woods to learn. This is the beginning of an easy hike to the Walker Sisters Homestead.Thre is an old cemetary also.

Just a short walk from Metcalf Bottoms Picnic area or drive up the gravel road. The one room school is setup to look like it is still in use. Apparently, at times the park has historical presentations but not on the day we visited. Recommended...More
