Some of the best views in the Smokies! Definitely worth a visit. Easy to get to and plenty of opportunities for great photos.

I've been to the Smokies many times but this was the first time I went to Clingmans Dome. I really recommend it. It's a fairly easy, uphill walk on a paved path for about 15 minutes. I ran up easily. The view is nice. We...More

Awesome views. Not a far hike and it's paved, but it's steep! Observation tower had just reopened, I think. Definitely worth the hike up.

It’s only half a mile they said. Uphill. Bring water, walking or hiking shoes, and time. The Appalachian Trail crosses this path to the Dome. There are several hikes that are worth the time. The views! Feel the mist of the clouds as they pass...More

I was hesitant to make the drive (1 hour 20 minutes from our cabin at Townsend), but glad we did. Pretty good 1/2 mile hike to the observation deck, with a fast elevation change. Even for in-shape folks, you may need to take a break...More

The climb up was very difficult for the short distance due to the pitch of the path. Needed many breaks going up to the platform. Coming down was much easier. The view at the top was worth it.

The walk up the mountain is worth ever step. Try to do this on as clear a day as possible and early morning or early evening is the best time in my opinion. Mid-day there are way to many people and parking is limited for...More

Folks, until recently. I had never seen a wild bear until my visit here when we saw one about 2 miles before we arrived on the side of the road. Then 2 cubs near the path as we got closer to the dome. So please...More

Well for the best view you need to go to the top, 6643ft. Make sure you go on a clear day, early or sunset. The drive can be long, the walk is not that challenging, no strollers or wheelchairs, cliff safety concerns. Bring water, okay...More

Clingmans Dome is the name of the mountain. The road to the Clingmans Dome parking area is a bit curvy and there are some drop offs. I would think your husband's problem would be that road more than the .5 mile paved hike... More
