We took a scenic float with Glacier Raft Co and it was so amazing we went whitewater rafting 2 days later!

What a great river for some rafting. Whether you just want a lazy float trip or some whitewater with some thrills, you'll find it on the Flathead. There are four licensed companies operating out of West Glacier that offer a multitude of trips. We did a half day whitewater rafting with dinner on the banks of the river afterward. Totally worth it.
Please note that the water level is lower during the late summer so the rapids aren't too bad allowing kids as young as 5-6 years old to go.

Rafting on the MF Flathead is a different way to see Glacier. Everyone should experience this! I went with Montana Raft-Glacier Guides. Great outfitters.

being novices to river rafting white water or otherwise, this was a good experience for us as we took 1/2 day scenic float trip with glacier rafting company. It was great, we survived and even had the experience of going through a couple of rapids – good times were had by all on the boat

We did a rafting adventure on the Middle Fork, and I must say it was pretty weak. We did get wet and splashed, but it was not the intensity I would prefer. It a beautiful river, and the most protected and natural river in the US, so that’s neat. Otherwise, yawn...and the ap won’t let me upload my photos from the GoPro...sad face.

Today, July 17th, my large family of 22 went on a rafting trip with this company. On the river we enjoyed multiple rapids that left us squealing for joy. Our guide, hunter is what really made the trip. He often made me crackle with his funny jokes and unforgettable stories, while at the same time making sure everyone was safe. Oh, and his southern charm screaming “all forward!” was very comforting in the moments of stress going down the rapids. It was very thrilling. Overall, I 10/10 recommend the raft trip and if I were you I would ask for Hunter (or sea biscuit for short)!

My husband, a friend and I drove along the Middle Fork of the Flathead river for about an hour. The river runs along US Hwy 2. There were several river access points. We pulled into one of the access points and skimmed some rocks into a river. The river is very clear and cool. We did not see any rafters. It is a beautiful drive through the mountains and along the blue river.

We did a half-day raft with Great Northern. There were two parties of 4 plus our delightful guide, Johnathan. They bused us up to Moccasin Creek and we got our safety and paddling orientation. In late August the water flow is 5% of the spring run-off rate, and so the trip is slower and less hazardous. That's alright - there were a few small exciting class 3 rapids to keep us entertained and we enjoyed the spectacular scenery and chatting with our new companions.
We pulled out about 3 hours later near the West Glacier park entrance. All together it took about 4 hours.
The river follows US Highway 2, and also the BNSF rail line. That rail line is pretty busy, and our conversations were drowned out by the roar of the engines 4 or 5 times during our trip.

A river worthy of hiking along, if not rafting. Rafting can be expensive, so if you prefer to save some coin, don't hesitate to hike or bike along the Flat Head river. Many places to pick up the river. One of my favorite locations was Belton Bridge, right outside West Glacier/Apgar village. Hike along the river and not up the side trail, which heads up and away from the river. Waters are very clear, can walk out to sand bars and boulders and sit on the side and watch the rafts float by. Can see down to the bottom, even in the deep pools, which take on this wonderful green color. For those seeking a challenge, one can jump off the bridge down into the river, which we did, but takes some courage to take the plunge. Be careful to jump from the right place into the deepest area of the river.

How long is the rafting trip and what class rapids are there. What is the minimum age requirement?
