Came here for a one-week training camp. At first it was a bit unclear what was expected of us. There isn't any "sign" to show you where the reception is to sign in or get your room keys.

Secondly, they don't really tell you anything in advance such as the setup of the training and where, how or with what and with who you will start your first training. Also they don't ask you if you have any experience or if there is anything you want to focus on.
This might not sound very well, but it's easy to just ask for any info at training or just join in when the training starts. Being pro-active is key and assures you to have a great time and learn a lot.

During training the trainers give you really good feedback and pointers on how to polish your new-found skills. Also, they provide a great combination of seriousness and sweating your butt off, and lots of laughs and playfulness. They really know their stuff!

Beds are HARD!

Was able to come in and do a drop in session. One of the best Muay Thai training sessions I have ever had. If you want real authentic Muay Thai training I can't recommend this place enough. You get world class trainers and train with other very good fighters. Everyone was very nice and helpful for it being my first time in the gym and everyone really motivates and helps you improve. I look forward to coming and training here again in the future.

I feel compelled to write this review as I personally went off the back of all the other "excellent" reviews.

My main point is if you are a beginner looking to learn Muay Thai skills and discipline, you'll simply be dismissed and overlooked at Santai as they only really care about professional fighters.

We arrived and nobody was around to give us the key to our room, no info on how to obtain it and had to try and get someone to give us some info. The room was basic, which is OK we were there to sleep and relax in it only, however for the whole month we stayed there nobody cleaned the room, despite notices on the wall explaining cleaning was done Thursday's 7-8am. We left our door open as per instruction nobody could be arsed.

Our first session rolled around, we were asked for no info regarding our beginner status and told we needed to buy wraps, shorts, shin pads. All unnecessary, we had shorts (not everyone trained in Muay Thai shorts) and we used our shin pads x2 max during the whole month - another example of the fact they only cared about taking your money.

Nobody explained anything in the training sessions, we were expected to take ourselves off for a 5k run without knowing where to go. One morning we had to follow some of the other boxers who decided to embark on a 10k run, I couldn't keep up and got lost, it took me 3 hours to find camp. Once again nobody cares to tell you anything and when you ask questions they simply look at you like your bothering them or the instructors pretend they don't know what your talking about.

The instructors are Thai, fantastic I thought they will show us how to do Muay Thai, we got 1 day of actual training by 1 guy that could actually be bothered to show us stepping, kicking, punching... The worst offenders Khru Lop (his technique to help you learn in to grab your head and shout in your face or give you a clip round the head for not blocking, which would be fine if we'd been taught HOW to block) the other terrible trainer Khru NaN, stunk of fags and didn't mind showing you he couldn't be bothered to be there, constantly looking at the clock, making you do the same combo of moves so that not only do you tire but injury occurs because he has you kicking constantly with the same leg. The only one who actually appeared to want to genuinely teach us something and allowed practice to get it right, correcting and coaching along the way was when we trained (only once) with Khru Sak and another pro mauy Thai guy called Andre - to those two Thankyou!

The gym is tired and worn, dirty and the weights kit is an absolute shambles (pretty sure that kits been there since the 80s). The owners really couldn't give a crap if newcomers came again as they only focus their attention on the pro or experienced.

Overall, my husband and I are really disappointed with our 1 month stay at Santai, we expected to be taught how to train Muay Thai style, taught specific moves and ultimately how to beat an opponent. We barely scratched the surface. The website is misleading saying they cater for all levels. Another beginner couple had the same opinion as us they decided to pay for private lessons in their last week from Khru Sak (the decent one) in order to come away with some knowledge. Unfortunately our experience was so bad we simply couldn't spend anymore money at this place and decided to use our last week to go sight seeing so our trip wasn't a complete failure!

In conclusion, if you want to learn Muay Thai go elsewhere... Anywhere but Santai.

I practice Muay Thai back in the states as a hobby and have always wanted to get a private lesson in Thailand from a native. I got just that and was shown all that I was doing wrong, which is exactly what I was looking. This is a legit Muay Thai gym and I highly recommend getting a private lesson.

This camp offers authentic Muay Thai training, you will be surrounded by trainers who are deeply passionate about the art, they have made a name for themselves in the industry, watching them and learning from them makes you understand why Muay Thai is a highly respected form of Martial Arts.

They focus on your form and execution and they are very meticulous about it. It’s probably because it bothers them to see if you’re not doing it properly. I have learned so much from the 2weeks I’ve been there. And have met some amazing individuals who shares the same interest in the art.

Everyone had such a great sense of humor & simultaneously vicious when deep focus calls for it. The fighters also train alongside the students during the training sessions. Seeing them train is extremely inspiring and motivating!

Each trainer have a different style of teaching and also have their own expertise. You will gauge them better once you do the one-on-one with them during the sessions. I finally asked Kru Thailand for my private sessions. He was amazing and his teaching style works best for me, he ignited my passion for this art even more.

As with everything else, you get as much as what you give to the training. They put their whole heart and soul into it, make sure you absorb as much as you can, it is something you take with you when you leave.

This is the camp I will be going to over and over and over. I highly recommend this camp if you are curious about the art or want to brush up and refine your skills and bump your level up.

That is a great gym. We have been coming in group since 5 years ago every year. We all love this gym, the location is wonderful and the people here is so nice as well as great trainers.
Top level trainers, dedicated and friendly, besides some of the young thai fighters, all make the training at Santai absolutely worthy.
Most people say, Chiang mai has the best food and people in all Thailand. And Sankampeng is all the best in Chiang Mai. People friendly with the few tourist we stay here and not tired of us like other places in the city or the south.

If your looking to experience something different or continue to learn/fight Muay than Santai Muay Thai is the place for you.

For me this is the best gym in Northern Thailand accommodating for all levels and ages of people wanting to learn fight or try Muay Thai for the first time.

Santai trainers are all from the famous Pinsinchai gym in Bangkok, holding many titles in stadiums like Lumpinee and Raja, some trainers still ranked in the top ten at these stadiums to date. For someone new to Muay Thai, you cannot get more experienced or higher stadiums in Thailand, for example this would be like having David Beckham teach you a free kick.

This gym took me from an orthodox beginner with ten fights, to a sponsored southpaw fighter holding twoworld titles in just over a year.

If you wish to try Muay Thai for the first time, loose weight, learn about the national sport or continue to fight/ learn seriously, this is the place for you.

The gym is situated just twenty - twenty five minutes outside Chiang Mai City in a little town called San Kamphaeng, with easy access to Buses and Taxis running in and out. The gym also have motorbikes and bycycles to hire for anyone wanting to travel and explore.

The accommodation ( including free wifi ) and training price is very cheap for the experience, knowledge and training you will receive. The gym also have a pick up and drop off service from the airport to your accommodation, no matter the time.

Real Muay Thai Experience. Loved this training and gym. From beginners to World Champions they are training here. Awesome to see how trainers push you at your own level. I would definitely come back.

I have trained recreationally for about 2 years in Singapore and this is my foray into the motherland of the art of eight limbs. Santai Muay Thai is set in a rustic little village in San Kamphaeng and is home to great coaches mostly from the famous Pinsinchai Camp in Bangkok. Here you start from the fundamentals. Learning to 'walk' again was humbling but as the days go by you will see how small tweaks can yield large rewards. I was fortunate to be trained by retired A-class top-ranked Lumpinee fighters Kru Phon and Kru Lop, the famous Muay Thai Twins and Kru Thailand Pinsinchai who is a Lumpinee.

The gym is nice and clean and the gym owners Nik and Ood set a cap to the number of people training so you do not have to worry about over-crowding. Training twice a day for the first time was abit shocking to the body but the clean air and good food will make it alright.

Spent two weeks there (unfortunately not longer). The training is very high quality training. It's perfectly organized and scheduled, everyone gets 5x5 min at the pads. The trainers are very skilled and some even kind of famous. They correct you all the time. The gym is very clean. The shop has everything you need, prices are reasonable. When there are fights (there are a lot of fighters) you can go with the gym people to support the fighters.
Highly recommended!!
