The enchanting Tamsui Old Street boasts the most beautiful Fisherman’s Wharf sunset of Taiwan. There are also well-complimented delectable snacks such as Ah Gei (bean curd) and fish ball, etc. On Bali left bank, there is the Ferry Old Street and Wazihwei Nature Reserve. It is relaxing and comfortable whether by strolling or cruising through on a bike. Besides the bustling business district, Tamsui is also full of an old vintage flavor. From western architectural relics to residences dating back to Japanese rule, each with their respective features and great stories to tell. If you visit Tamsui in spring, the magnificent cherry blossoms of Tianyuan Palace are a must see. If you wish for further intimacy with nature, why not camp out for the night under the starry sky. The Bali culture park camping site offers round, transparent bubble tents. Experience the close, seamless connection to surrounding nature from within for an unforgettable memory.

My wife and I went to Tamsui as a break from the city. After exploring the old street, we took the ferry to this fisherman's wharf as the reviews were generally positive. We soon discovered that aside from the bridge, there is absolutely nothing to do here. We crossed the bridge to the only other structure on the other side, which houses a seafood restaurant. The restaurant, however, only opens at 5 p.m., and the last ferry back to Tamsui departs at 6 p.m. So we just headed back.

We were here in January, so perhaps things are different in the warmer months. Otherwise, save your MRT fare and don't bother taking the ferry.

The weather is not good to us and has been raining the whole day. The crowd is still there to enjoy the street food and the water scenery.

After strolling along Tamsui Old Street for about an hour on a Thursday afternoon in late July, we decided to take a ferry to explore the Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf.

As it was close to evening, we could only purchase the one-way ticket (NT$60 per person) as the ferry was leaving for Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf at 6pm but the last boat departing from there was at 6.30pm. To return to Tamsui MRT Station, we were advised to take a Red 26 bus either from the Lover’s Bridge or a certain hotel at the Fisherman’s Wharf. Fortunately the instructions printed in English were clear!

The 10-minute ferry ride was quite pleasant and scenic. When we arrived at the wharf, we enjoyed watching the sunset, taking photos on our iphones as well as walking along the iconic white Lovers’ Bridge.

Unfortunately we were underwhelmed by the dinner options after our stroll. We were actually looking forward to having a memorable seafood dinner. Alas we only found one rather deserted and tacky-looking seafood restaurant at the end of the Lovers’ Bridge, next to a Subway (sandwich) outlet.

We even trudged all the way back along the bridge and walked right to the extreme end of the very long boardwalk, in search of dinner, only to find a deserted space right in front of an ordinary-looking hotel.

By then we were so tired that we decided to hop on the Red 26 bus (yes, we thankfully chanced upon the right hotel on the R26 bus route) and headed straight back to Taipei Main Station.

Maybe it was a week night (Thursday) and so there seemed to be limited dinner options at Fisherman’s Wharf. What a shame that was for us.

Our otherwise fairly interesting visit to Tamsui Old Street/Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf was therefore marred by the disappointing experience towards the end of the evening.

We did however console ourselves that at least we had a change of scenery and had even tried different modes of public transport all in a day - train, ferry and bus...not forgetting our legs “11”!

Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf (淡水漁人碼頭) is located in the western tip of Tamsui District of New Taipei City. It is only 25 km (15.5 mi) from Taipei Station. It is also called "Tamsui Second Fishing Port" and was a key fishing port in the north part of Taiwan. Under the Council of Agriculture guideline to promote the diversified construction of fishing port functions, Tamsui Second Fishing Port finished construction and transformed to Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf in March 2001. It preserved its fishing port function and became a popular tourist attraction in New Taiwan City.

Today, this leisure fishing port is a popular destination. You can see visitors during daytime and nighttime, especially on weekends. We went there several times and found it was one of the best modernized old fishing ports that welcomes the visitors for a pleasant visit. The parking lot is quite large and is close to the beautiful 196 m (643 ft) white Lover’s Bridge – a cable-stayed bridge (斜張橋) that spans across the port from north to south. The bridge illuminates with different colors during nighttime which makes it even more beautiful. It is still a functional fishing port that can accommodate 150 boats and yachts. The most significant feature on the wharf is the 330 m (1,083 ft) boardwalk along the seashore above the breakwater. This is a perfect location to watch the beautiful sunset. You can find a number of restaurants / coffee shops under the boardwalk and in nearby buildings. A cruise liner shaped deluxe hotel Fullon Hotel Tamsui Fishermen’s Wharf (福容大飯店), just few walks from the port, not only provides accommodations, but also food. A 100 m (328 ft) high with 360 degree rotating Lover’s Tower (淡水情人塔) provides a panoramic view of surrounding, which is an unforgettable experience.

The seafood is fresh and is the most popular fare here in the wharf. You can find both western and Chinese style food restaurants. There is a World Chocolate Wonderland next to the Starbucks if you like chocolate. Today, you can take a boat from Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf to Tamsui Ferryboat Wharf (淡水渡船碼頭) where there is another popular Tamsui tourist attraction – Tamsui Old Street. You can take the MRT from Taipei City to Tamsui Station, visit Tamsui Old Street first, and then take the boat to Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf. It is the easiest and quickest way to visit both locations.

Tamshui Fishermen's Wharf is really scenic with its abundance of boats and yachts; Fullton Hotel is nearby as well as the Subway outlet. The Lover's Bridge is the must visit and highly popular with young visitors and tourists. The sunset view as well as the night lights make this a really stunning place to capture vacation memories in photographs

I like this place very much due to its sunset view and the ambient. I will visit this place every time I visited Taipei. From Tamsui MRT station just take bus 26Red to this place. There are some restaurants here, but for me I will have my meal before or after this place at Tamsui old street. On the bridge, you can watch the sunset over the horizon and with sea breeze blowing you will feel very relax and calm. A must visit place in Taiwan.

If you are walking to Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf from Tamsui MRT station, it is a fair distance. And although on a main road, it can be lonely. And the immediate thing you first see when you arrive is a somewhat tacky hotel and revolving tower. The area looks like a building site, and the grass has not been cut. But if you persevere past this, you will arrive at a small marina dominated by a bridge, accompanied by a whole row of food and souvenir shops. The sunset is quite spectacular, and ultimately worth the walk there. But take the bus back. The bus stop is just next to the marina,

This place is good for sightseeing, chilling and relax. The love bridge have a beautiful view point of the area and the river. Will be prefect on the cold season though. However I believe going on the night will be amazing as there will be night lights. Anw, if you visit Fort San Domingo, you can take R26 to this location and return to Tamsui Station via boat which cost $60.. Overall this is good to explore

This area is quite scenic. The iconic Lover's Bridge is nice, very popular for nice pictures on the bridge. There are plenty of shops and eateries along the wharf. Great place for a relaxing outing.
