    Worth to come
Inspired by colorful paintings and its background. Convenient location. Regretted that some places were under renovation so we could not see full picture of the village. The visitors can come early to avoid crowd. Worth to come

    Artsy Compound
The village is actually a small compound composed of three or four tiny painted homes. Some of the walls were recently adorned with striking murals, but were inconsistent with the predominant art style of the houses. Overall, it still is a satisfactory trip particularly for the Instagram-led crowd.

Worth a visit but not a detour
I have to say we were there on a rainy day, which makes it less fun of course. Yes the story behind it is moving, and yes it looks very sweet and colorful but it is also very very small. Not worth the detour if you ask me but worth a visit if you are in Taichung.

I visited on Sat. 21 October. I took a bus to and from HSR Taichung station using my Easycard.
I had read past reviews commenting about the shops there. No shops were open this day. Okay for those who take selfie photos but for me it was disappointing.
I mentioned this to the lady back at the Tourist info counter at HSR Taichung and she was perplexed. She said shops are only closed on Mondays. So much for my visit which is why I only gave it 2 stars.

Taiwan in itself a beautiful country! It is colorful and the people around are also nice and helpful. We did not find communication that difficult as people did speak English. But yes, there were times when we had to use the translator to manage communication.
I would recommend buying a T money card which can be used in public transports. You can easily find it in 7 Eleven. Also, they have amazing options on the cards which you can take it with you as a souvenir. Furthermore, you can download apps that can help you find a relevant bus or metro route.
We took a bus to the rainbow village, which is a little far from the city. However, it was worth it. The place is beautiful and shows how artistic the people of Taiwan are. We went on a weekend and hence, we found the place crowded. But we did manage to get spots to get clicked. I would suggest visiting the place a little early to find fewer people there. There are many shops inside wherein you can buy gifts for your friends. There are amazing postcards too.

I have read several article about his place and its inspiring history, then decide to visit. If you stay in Taichung, this would be a 4 stars rating, I spent around 20 minutes to look around a colorful painting. Very refreshing in the the morning, nevertheless, if one stays in Taipei and come just for this place visit. It would not worth to come this far to just do this. Had a chance to see the village originator sitting next to souvenir shop posting for guests to take picture with him.

rainbow village is worth the day trip out of Taipei to see this cute little village and one man's attempt to save his home. Also can buy souvenirs here to help support the village.

Was not sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised by the small collection of colorful buildings. Backstory was intriguing and led to our curiosity. Glad we visited as the contrast of Rainbow Village and its neighbors is dramatic. If you pause and imagine the changes this country and city have undergone, Rainbow Village reflects part of those changes. Buildings have funky designs, forms and colors. Then also had cutouts based on the forms you could place your face through and take pictures. People in the area were very nice. Not too large of an area but interesting nonetheless.

The story is nice therefore the 2 star review. Everything else, just no. There are a few small painted buildings, plenty of places to buy tat, and that's it. 10 minutes is loads of time here and not worth going out of the way for.
