Amazing Experience!
Jan 2020
Taiwan in itself a beautiful country! It is colorful and the people around are also nice and helpful. We did not find communication that difficult as people did speak English. But yes, there were times when we had to use the translator to manage communication.
I would recommend buying a T money card which can be used in public transports. You can easily find it in 7 Eleven. Also, they have amazing options on the cards which you can take it with you as a souvenir. Furthermore, you can download apps that can help you find a relevant bus or metro route.
We took a bus to the rainbow village, which is a little far from the city. However, it was worth it. The place is beautiful and shows how artistic the people of Taiwan are. We went on a weekend and hence, we found the place crowded. But we did manage to get spots to get clicked. I would suggest visiting the place a little early to find fewer people there. There are many shops inside wherein you can buy gifts for your friends. There are amazing postcards too.

Early morning visit
Jan 2020
I have read several article about his place and its inspiring history, then decide to visit. If you stay in Taichung, this would be a 4 stars rating, I spent around 20 minutes to look around a colorful painting. Very refreshing in the the morning, nevertheless, if one stays in Taipei and come just for this place visit. It would not worth to come this far to just do this. Had a chance to see the village originator sitting next to souvenir shop posting for guests to take picture with him.

Far but worth it

rainbow village is worth the day trip out of Taipei to see this cute little village and one man's attempt to save his home. Also can buy souvenirs here to help support the village.

Quirky & Cool
Dec 2019 • Couples
Was not sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised by the small collection of colorful buildings. Backstory was intriguing and led to our curiosity. Glad we visited as the contrast of Rainbow Village and its neighbors is dramatic. If you pause and imagine the changes this country and city have undergone, Rainbow Village reflects part of those changes. Buildings have funky designs, forms and colors. Then also had cutouts based on the forms you could place your face through and take pictures. People in the area were very nice. Not too large of an area but interesting nonetheless.

Eh what? That's it?

The story is nice therefore the 2 star review. Everything else, just no. There are a few small painted buildings, plenty of places to buy tat, and that's it. 10 minutes is loads of time here and not worth going out of the way for.

Taiwan takes care of their Heritage
Dec 2019 • Family
A retired military veteran had the idea to paint the whole village to save it from modernization.
Notice the whole area is undergoing construction of high rise buildings. It is a good initiative to preserve local culture and art appreciation.
The 97 year old sells paintings for TWD50 and you can take a picture with him.
This place has so many angles for good photos even if the place is crowded with tourists. The best time to go is morning or late afternoon since the sun affects the picture taking. It takes less than 40-45 minutes for this activity including bathroom break.

Interesting Back story but not so Impreasive attraction

If you're visiting Taichung you might as well drop by Raibow Village. It is free anyway. I wasnt so impressed with the attraction as it is basically a bunch of old houses with art. Any city can make one of their own. What makes it special though is the how this village was saved by the artisitic skills of a 90yo man. You can reach Rainbow Village by High Speed Rail to Taichung station from Taipei Central. From the station you can take a 200 NTD taxi ride or by bus

Highly recommended by our guide. Dropped by to take some pics and left. It was crowded when we were there so didn't really took many maybe partly due to the hot weather.

Colourful!!
Dec 2019 • Family
Like it’s name, it’s a place full of colors!
We came with 2 young kids (2yo, 7yo), and they were excited with the colorful painting. Checked out almost every wall. There’s a small playground with sand to keep kids entertained, which we did not let the kids play.

Some of the painting comes with a good idiom, such as 金榜题名(top scholar), 貌美如花 (beautiful), etc. You maybe able to get a photo with the painter at the souvenir shop. It’s amazing how he transform these houses into a landmark in this area.

Do check out the cart selling 3d creative candy floss.

Spent about 1-2 hrs here, first stop of our day. Were glad to do so.
