I was quite torn about doing activities with elephants as their is apparently a lot of poor abused elephants that are beaten to perform for tourists.
We found this place at a tourist attraction hut in Patong and it looked the most ethical.
We were picked up at the hotel and driven to the property where the elephants live.
The elephants showed no signs of abuse and were quite tame. They had obviously been “ trained “ to a certain extent but not to the point of being performers.
My niece and I were the only two with three elephants to ourselves to feed, play with, walk and wash in the pool. It was intimate and a lovely experience.
I won’t go to the zoo or any other animal shows in Phuket, but I’m glad I did this.

We expected what we have seen in the photos ... a tropical forest 3/4H tour on the back of an elephant, to see/hear some monkey or birds to get some information about elephants, forest and other animals.
What we get on top of the elephant ... unsafe seats having just a rope as safe guard, you need to grab and hold with both hands the side bars of the seat ... other wise you can experience a 3m fell down from the elephant back seat direct in the jungle bush or stiff slopes. Trails in the forest have been made by excavator and buldozer on accidental ground and stiff slopes so elephant driving was quite a challenge. Elephant did not always follow driver commends and I was not sure who is leading the driver or the elephant. Be advise ... This attraction is at your own RISK!

It is situated in Kamala (top of a hill with terrific view) and they send pick up (and drop off) tuk tuk type of transport from hotel. The elephants are not chained and are gathered in a place (snacking). We took the 30min ride - an interesting experience - have our bare food on the elephant 😊. The place looks clean as well.

First and foremost the website says they do not offer animal trekking, however upon arrival they did offer trekking, even their brochure says they offer it. The elephants were chained, they had a small monkey on the property that was also chained in a box. The whole time the owners were holding the elephants ears making them pose for pictures. Definitely not a sanctuary.

There are chains and they do go on trecks which are very damaging to elephants. Their backs are not built to have humans weight. Too sad for the elephants to be held by the ear to make them do what they want them to. Read about how elephants are trained before visiting.

We chose option 2 and we loved it. We were promptly picked up and taken there. It was about 30mins away from Karin.
The elephants had no chains or no hooks were used. They pretty much followed commands and were also fed as encouragement. We initially fed them some bamboo and bananas we were lucky enough for it to be just us and another couple so we all had our own elephant to feed and interact with. The Elephant handler was friendly and took lots of photos for us
We were then given a bag of food and we started off on our walk feeding the elephant as we went.We walked up a hill for an amazing view , where we got more photos. We were allowed to get on the elephant for photos. We had to sit on it's neck ( no horrible seat ) just behind his ears. Again he took more photos for us. He then let me ride it to the next spot for more photos.
We then returned to the elephant pool. All the elephants happily went in and went under water had a bit of a play before we got in the water
I was scrubbing the backs , and there was young guy ( I tipped him for doing this for me )who took more photos for us as the handler was also in the water.Elephants are just beautiful creatures
I do believe the elephants seem happy and there was no cruelty or anger towards the elephants
Just a tip.. Be care careful not to swallow water whilst in the elephant pool and my husband got sick but he when under water. I was careful and was fine
This is a once in a lifetime amazing experience

I was looking to go somewhere were the elephants were cruelty free and happy. We arrived and started feeding the elephants and everything was ok. We began to to walk to the beach to go swimming with the elephants when one was walking slow and the “trainer” was yelling at the elephant. We gave our phone to one of the people and they took photos for us while we interacted with the elephants. The “trainers” tried to make us sit on the elephants trunks and knees ect. When we said we didn’t want to they did it to show us and said that the elephants enjoyed it which made me uncomfortable as the elephants didn’t seem very joyful. As soon as my phone died they said our time was over when it said 3 hours and we were there for about 1.
In my opinion if you want an elephant photo shoot this is great for you but if you want a cruelty free elephnant experience I’d say look somewhere else.

Amazing experience. I have always wanted to experience something like this - I love elephants - was always worried about animal abuse etc but with Baanchanghai that was far from the case. They were not chained and looked well after. We got to feed them, walk with them through the jungle and then got to swim with them. VERY friendly staff. Willing to take photos of us constantly. It felt like I was doing a photo shoot. I will definately be back
