I did not go inside, but the castle outside, the park and surrounding are great. Very pleasant. A must see as a half day trip from Paris.

This is a lovely chateau on the outskirts of Paris, with huge grounds. The main building houses a small but interesting museum: I loved the ceramics and porcelain on display, and the entrance fee was very reasonable. There has been some fairly recent refurbishment of the cascades and the canal, and you could walk or cycle for kilometres in the extensive grounds. Outside the chateau gates is the small village centre of Sceaux, well worth venturing into if you have time.

This public park used to belong to Colbert, one of Louis XIV's main Ministers, and was designed by Andre Le Notre, the landscaper for the Versailles gardens. This explains why the Parc de Sceaux is a little like Versailles gardens in miniature. There are "jardins à la française", many fountains, and a large canal.

Apart of course from strolling through the different areas, there are several events organised during the year, like chamber music concerts in the orange garden, or candle illuminations in the evening. Check their website.

There is plenty of room but if you want some peace, avoid sunny and hot weekend afternoons.

The easiest way to get there is with the train RER B from the center of Paris. But you can also bike there from the Montparnasse area over the "Coulée verte". It's quite an adventure !

No doubt, it is a beautiful green parc. The domain is very good for running, walking, as well as outdoors activities with or without children.
There are playgrounds for toddlers and children.
We go often for walking sometimes we do picnic ... but there is a huge problem with the toilets, they are not good. They need to be fixed, cleaned and have a bit more ... it is a huge problem when we go for picnic

Surprise your friends by visiting this out of town Paris destination. Sceaux is on the RER B going south east and means its only 20 minutes ish from ST Michel or 25 mins from Chatelet les halles. Sceax is pronouned Soooo or Sewww depending on your accent)

Parc de Sceaux is a ten min walk through the centre of Sceaux village (suburban village) past the village church (worth a little look) and the market - there is also a good cafe bar at the market entrance and we had lunch there and can be recommended as good parisian fare, ! Entrance to the Park is just across the street - this is a wonderful park on the style of paris city centre parks but much bigger - the chateau lying at the centre of the park is just a backdrop really as this park is all about walking people watching and taking in the magnificent views over the countryside. Dont be tempted to take a good french coffee in the park cafe near the chateau wait until you have a good walk and then you will feel you deserve it !

Plenty of choice of walks start by just slowly walking around the laid out gardens in front of the chateau they are so photogenic. The venture further including down to the lake and fountains. If good weather certainly take a picnic there are also plenty of shaded spots if you are looking for shade if too sunny. Look out for exhibitions on in the orangerie too check the internet to see if any thing on before your visit. On exit look to see if can leave near the orangerie and walk back to the market and to the centre along the road at the edge of the park some amazing large houses to view on your way !

By the way if you are a chocolate fan you will love your visit to Sceaux as Sceaux is the home to the very first chocolate shop of the chocolatier and chocolate artist Patrick Roger - check out his shop on the main street of Sceaux - some very nice other shops in the village on your way back from the park including a bread/bun shop.

The nearest station is Parc Sceaux. A brisk walk of 10 min will take you to this huge park. Entry free. Very ideal to spend time with family/kids. We see many families with kids bring/pack their lunch...etc.., spend time here leisurely in this beautiful natural landscape. Drinking water facility is there. Beautiful fountain, vast garden. One shall easily reserve one full day to enjoy in this park.

I stayed nearby and a visit was recommended by my hotel. I walked over and entered by the traffic circle at the end of Avenue du Parc de Sceaux. At first I was shocked to find a fence covered in foliage, and the gate open only to find a small path also covered in foliage. I was by myself so I was a bit nervous but I did see other people entering before me so I continued on. Once you wind your way in this place is magnificent. There were all sorts of paths, some more manicured, some more natural and so much to see. They had an area with large horses, another with goats near the entrance I went in. Then you get in deeper and there is the water and the fountain and the statues. Just when you think it cannot get better you climb up to see the chateau and then your eyes get to take in the garden as well. Very lovely. There is a small truck/cafe with seating and umbrellas near the chateau. Staff was friendly and prices were reasonable. You could easily spend a day here.

The "castle" is just average, it looks like large mansion rather that a typical french chateau. It has some history but insignificant comparing with other castles in the area. It has some ties with Charles Perrault and Voltaite, no they didn't live here, they were here at some point. The structure is too simple to have make it on the "must see it" list. It was renovated in 2005. It is ok, don't get me wrong, but there are much better ones on Loire Valley. Still worth a visit if you are around, just don't pick a weekend day. The place is very busy with locals, it a common destination for picnics, and wedding pictures. Pick a working day and go early. Parking is free but limited.

Use RER B from Paris, make sure you catch the train that stops at Parc Sceaux. Turn left out of the station, take the first turning on the right after the little roundabout, keep to the left to the end of the road, turn right. Walk about 100m and the entrance is on the left hand side of the road.
Walk through the lovely park, along the canal, in mid-April, and see the magnificent cherry blossom. Take a picnic and enjoy the most amazing cherry blossom; beautiful old trees laden with blossom, boughs bending towards the grass. Lie on the grass and look up through the blossom to the blue sky above. Join lots of Parisian families and friends revelling in the beauty.
Walk along the canal and enjoy the grove of delicate white cherry blossom-very few people leave the fluffy pink blossom to enjoy the beautiful white trees, but it is worth walking the 20m along the canal to enjoy it.
The gardens are free, there are lots of kiosks where you can get coffee and sandwiches and there are free toilets.
A thoroughly magical experience.
