Beautiful museum, that tells all aspects of the battle in the area.

Winterline museum is one of the best war museums in the area around Monte Cassino. Luciano first accompanied us on a trip in the mountains where he showed us "then and now" places. After that he did the tour of the museum with us. It is a well organized museum and tells all aspects of the battle of the Winterline.

Education on the WWII battle for Italy as seen through the Lens of the remnants of war collected over decades by hosts.

The use of military artifacts to share with visitors what the experience of the second world war meant for the belligerants, the Italian people, their families, and their villages. Outstanding historical displays that have been prepared with impressive accuracy. You travel to a time of conflict and can feel what soldiers must have felt in those difficult days of fighting. You can see the weapons of war and the uniforms worn by the young men whose lives were gambled for the political ideals of old men at the expense of the Italian people whose lives were torn apart by the instruments of war. A must see. Bravo to Luciano Bucci and his associates for collecting, preparing, interpreting and curating this gem of a museum. I salute you. A must see for military history enthusiasts.

Second world war storytelling
Aug 2020 • Friends
Very interesting Museum, with 100% original finds from second world war, patiently collected by Winter Line association's members. Luciano, that welcomes you in a warm way, can tell you dozens of historical stories related with local fightings dated back in 1943. The Museum Is a private initiative, held in a regione Molise Building from XVII century, very interesting itself.

More an experience than a museum
Feb 2020
This is a place young people should visit. Most will have no interest in going (which is why they should go) but will come away with a better understanding and appreciation of what the Boomers’ parents did for us to help create the life we enjoy today. I think simply calling it a museum short changes the way it transforms the dull words of history books into a good representation of the battlefield experience with a focus on the human side of the conflict. However, even in a museum of this quality there is no way to convey but a hint of the brutal conditions both sides had to endure. Too many war museums are hooray-for-our-side while de-humanizing the “enemy”. The Winterline Museum treat all sides with dignity and impartially presenting combatants as the patriots or conscripts they were. I won’t duplicate other reviews re the amazing number and variety of WW2 artifacts - photographs, site maps, weapons, communication devices, etc. - that Luciano and his friends have retrieved from the mountains and displayed so well, or Luciano’s amazing knowledge of local WW2 history, but I encourage you to read them. I had walked the battlefields of Monte Cassino before my visit and suggest you make time to do that or a local battlefield. It provides context for what you see in the Winterline Museum.

Amazing museum and experience. Worth a detour!
Feb 2020
I am a Viet Nam veteran (101st Airborne Division) and have visited the Normandy beachheads and all the museums there. This authentic, understated museum ranks with the best of them. The fact that Luciano, our gracious host, and several of his teenage friends spent years searching the mountains and fields of the 1943-1944 winter battle on these sights, finding the weapons, uniforms and other artifacts is amazing. That they were then able to painstakingly assemble such a realistic and moving exhibit is even more impressive. This is one WWII museum which presents all of the nations' troops fairly and impartially: they simply want to present the facts of the brutal conditions faced by all. There is a quiet dignity here with no intruding loud music or videos which would be distracting in such special, quiet place. Simply put: Luciano and his dedicated friends got it right! Do not mis this museum. It is sure to be a lasting memory of any trip Grazie mille to Luciano and his devoted friends.

When we do our group tours to the Liri Valley, the Winterline Museum is always on our schedule. The well appointed museum is continually updated each time we return. A must see if you travel to the Liri Valley.

Outstanding Museum!
Jun 2019
If you are anywhere between Naples and Rome, put this on your itinerary! The museum has an amazing collection of artifacts recovered from WWII battlefields in the area, and tells a wonderful interpretive story of their significance in the region known during the war as the Winter Line. Superb dioramas!

WINTERLINE WWII MUSEUM
Oct 2019
The winterline museum in Venafro is one of the best and most impressive WWII museums I've ever been too..Luciano was fantastic as a guide and it was a first rate experience. Most impressive is the back story of how these artifacts were found in nearby fields and surrounding mountains. Also impressive is its not just allied artifacts, but all nations that were involved in the conflict, including many German artifacts and uniforms.Highly recommend this stop for any tourist !!!

Magnificent! Luciano is the best!
Nov 2019
The Winterline Museum in Venafro is one of the best WW2 museums I have been to in Europe. The themed displays were perfect down to the tiniest detail. Not only was the museum amazing, but Luciano took us on a footsteps tour of the 143rd Inf Reg who was there in December 1943. I would highly recommend making the trip to Venafro and experience the Winterline museum.
