Such a cute beach! We were looking for a beach close by the cruise port because we didn’t have a lot of time in Crete and this beach was perfect. The water was so clear. It had a coffee shop across the street too.

This beach is beautiful but VERY stony on the beach rather than Sandy but the sunset and sea was stunning. Think there maybe a shop close by but otherwise quite small.

What a wonderful swimming spot right off the main highway. Too bad they built a towering bridge over the top of this amazing little beach. Still, a great place to sun and swim.

A small bay near to Heraklion, with Cristal clear water and very good Greek Taverns! No tourism theater, but a place where you can be with Greek people.

This is a lovely little beach and worth exploring if you’re staying locally. We’re in one of the local villas so came here a couple of times. It’s sheltered from the wind and has calm clear water for swimming in. The beach is shingle with very small stones, it’s worth wearing beach shoes.

We’re here in low season so it’s quiet but I expect it’s busy in the summer.

The local taverna is nice for lunch too.

Paleokastro beach is located 14 km west of Heraklion, on the highway to Canea. Right after the homonymous bridge, you go to the right which ends to the beach. Small, no-commercialized, pure environment, with shower and some facilities. Next to the beach is the Paleokastro casttle and with the view of the Rhogdia village. Nice, clean dip waters for enjoyable swimming. Next to the beach, on the right-hand side is the marvellous LOUKAKIS local-family tavern. One can have the most generous greek salad, and the best fried fish (gopes) on earth for very little money. Nikos, the owner and his mother run the tavern, in a traditional mode, kind and quiet. Worth visiting and highly recommended for quality, clean, cheap and tasty food.

Very close to Heraklion , only 15 minutes away. A small clean beach with clear waters.
Small tavernas for a light lunch overlooking the sea.
Must visit!!!

We stayed in Agia Pelagia and wanted to swim in the ocean. We went to paleokastro beach by car. Around 10 am you have a good chance to find a parking spot. The beach is not very big, but the location is very nice. You can hear the cars on the bridge above the beach. There are a few tavernas and a small shop where you can buy ice cream and other things. There aren’t a lot of trees so there isn’t a lot of shade. Unlike the other reviews I read we couldn’t rent a beach bed. We had a lovely time.

Now as a beach this is not really up to much compared to the many wonderful beaches that Crete gad to offer - however if you have some daredevil teenagers that have to let off some steam and want to go rock jumping/cliff jumping then it has the advantage of the see getting deep very quickly and near vertical rocks that are easy to climb. You can jump in from anywhere between 1m and I estimate 15m pretty safely (as long as you are a competent swimmer). There was very little current/wave when we were there and the beach is pretty sheltered. We stopped on the way back to Rethymnon from Heraklion - you pull straight off the E75/90, down the slipway and onto the beach. We stayed for 2 hours- probably enough...not really worth spending a whole day.
