About
The Museum is located in the nineteenth-century Palazzo Sinesi. The current exhibition, renewed in 2018, illustrates with didactic and informative panels in Italian and English, a cross-section of the Canosa society between the Archaic and Hellenistic periods, one of the most important moments in the millennial history of the city. The archaeological exhibition is dedicated to grave goods from archaic tombs and rich hellenistic hypogea, that show us customes and attitudes of Canosa society and also the high quality of the local handicraft.

The nineteenth-century Palazzo Sinesi is the depository for findings from the urban area and surrounding territory, a cross-section of the Canosa society between the Archaic and Hellenistic periods, the most important ones in the millennial history of the city.
The archaeological exhibition, dedicated to grave goods from archaic tombs and rich hellenistic hypogea, shows visitors customes and attitudes of Canosa society and also the high quality of the local handicraft.
Not far from the area of Canne della Battaglia, the Museum guards a great variety of Apulian-red figured vases characterized by monumental dimensions and rich decorations, elaborately sculptured polychrome Daunian askos, long anatomical cuirasses. The cultural heritage housed in Canosa archaeological museum is priceless, don't miss it!

Canosa, I have to say, is quite an ugly town, devastated by yours of ugly buildings raised after WWII. But it hosts some archeological wonders which are known (and displayed) in some of the world’s most famous museums such as the Louvre and the British museums.
Canosa was for hundreds of years one if the main Italian towns of the Magna Grecia (the greater Greece), and was home of the most exquisite pottery production of the era. Some of the greatest archeological findings of the 19th century come from the local “Ipogei”, massive underground graves. This local museums host incredibly beautiful and unique findings, and it is absolutely worth stopping by.
The guides are worth a special mention: they are young archeologists who grouped to creaste the local Archeological association. Their knowledge and passion should become an example for all the museums in all Italy. We took a tour of the Ipogei and some other archeological remains which are under the modern town, and it was splendid. And with the help of the guides (the tour is 10€ per person and it includes the guided visit to the museum) it gave the town a complete different aspect. Aside the Sinesi museum it is also worth to visit the Museo dei Vescovi, both located very close one to the other and very close to Canosa main square and Cathedral.
Just don’t miss it!

We were very lucky to be allowed in the museum as it is closed on Mondays, but the person let us in as he said he did not want to disappoint us.The people of Canada were very welcoming and helpful wherever we went.
The artifacts are funeral offerings, but are amazingly intact and I had not seen so many nice and different ceramics before. It is all described in Italian, but I would say this museum is worth 20 minutes of your time

We visited the town of Canosa di Puglia on a Saturday morning and found the town busy with locals but not crowded. In the piazza outside the main church and before you reach the Villa Comunale gardens are a number of noticeboards. While we were reading the boards and getting our bearings, one of the locals introduced himself and suggested we visit the Sinesi museum. Initially I thought it was a ploy to have him guide us and expect a fee. However, that was not the case and it was a genuine effort to direct us to the museum which has free entry and friendly welcoming staff. While the museum is small, occupying only one floor, it does have interesting and well preserved exhibits and is somewhere worth spending 20-30 minutes. There is also the added benefit of a free and clean toilet.
