About
Know to the studious from the XVIII century, the site was subject to an archeological inquiry from 1978. It was started that in the centre of the modern city are the rest of a peripteral temple with 6 columns on the short side and 10 on the long ones with a wide entry stairway on the East of the actual Via Imrbiani. The name of the monument was give thanks to tha discovery of Jove statue in that area. The adjective Toro identified an overpass area during the middle age period.

Do una stella perché sono profondamente amareggiata dallo stato di conservazione del luogo. Qui in Puglia, a Canosa, abbiamo dei gioielli di storia inestimabile come questo di Giove Toro, ma che non sono valorizzati. Sembra un luogo abbandonato a se stesso, o cartelli al suo interno (visibili dalla passerella oltre la recinzione) sono ormai sbiaditi e illeggibili. È un grande peccato. Il posto meriterebbe 10 stelle, la cura che se ne ha ZERO.

resti di un tempio di età romana di giove toro, periptero con sei colonne in lati corti e dieci su lati lunghi, su podio scalinato. il nome giove toro deriva dalla statua di giove, ritrovata su una altura, ossia toro, della città. edificio inserito originariamente in uno spazio porticato

Ho avuto modo di vedere quest'area archeologica a carattere sacro solo grazie alla mappa archeologica di Canosa. I resti di questo grande tempio, visitabile solo grazie ad una passerella tra le case, sono imponenti e fanno intuire la grandiosità di un tempo. Oggi ne resta il basamento e i ruderi di alcuni edifici attigui.
In una passeggiata per la città, non fa male passare presso quest'area sacra.

Se come me abitate a circa 900 KM da Canosa vi sfido senza guida a trovare la passerella che vi fa vedere questo sito archeologico. Mi dicono che sarà a breve oggetto di ulteriori scavi. Ritornerò.
