Fantastic garden by bus
Jan 2020
This fantastic garden can be easily reached by the 300 bus from Santa Cruz or los llanos la palma. Get the 300 to Colegio Tendin A, a school about 30 minutes from Santa Cruz or 15 minutes from los Llanos, check with the timetable on the net.

From the colegio tendin A go down the hill about 100 meters approx turn right, (sign to Palmex on the wall where you turn) walk about 100 meters uphill take the first left, (sight to Palmex on the wall). Walk uphill to gate on the right.

The garden is free but you can donate what you want to the upkeep. We donated €20 for the 2 of us €10 each because it is such a special garden, well loved with more cactus, aloe, succulents, lithops that I have ever seen. All beautifully kept.

We spent about 1.5 hours but did not feel we could appreciate what we saw. There must be thousands of different species and from what the owners told us they are cross breeding. So more marvels to see in the future. We will be back.

Friendly hosts, lovely cacti.

Worth popping down here. Really enjoyable and relaxing. Bit confusing knowing what to put in the donations pouch though! Maybe they should just charge an entry fee.

Hidden gem: a must
Apr 2019 • Couples
We saw this place in a Twenty year old book. But after all the years the place is sill going strong: now under Swiss ownership. The place has fantastic species among the also cactuses from Africa.

A lovely garden open by a nice couple.
Mar 2019
We tried to find this place on our previous trips to La Palma but managed it this time. It was well worth the wait. It is obviously a labour of love and it shows. huge and impressive cacti are the stars but the overall walk around the garden is also a pleasure.

MAGICAL
Jul 2018 • Couples
This cacti garden is a private gem whose owners, passionate about succulents, are very helpful, friendly, and full of information. Their collection of agave and cacti is wide ranging and beautifully tended.
One could roam through the garden for hours, soaking in the beauty and serenity.
There is no entrance fee, but a nice donation is appreciated and helps cover the expenses.
Highly recommended!

Incredible hidden gem
Apr 2018 • Couples
After reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor, we decided to visit Palmex Cactus, and were pleased to discover a hidden gem. You’ll walk into a garden with cacti that span many years, some which tower over you. The owners, Veronica and Carl, were explaining that the cactus garden has been there since the 80s, but they only took it over several years ago after moving to La Palma and have cultivated and improved the garden since. They were only too happy to chat to us about the plants and were incredibly friendly. Thank you to them both for opening up their private garden and allowing us to catch a glimpse of these amazing plants. Allow an hour to an hour and a half for your visit.

Cactus with a difference
Jan 2018 • Couples
Once you can find the place you will enjoy it. No entrance fee, no toilets, no coffee, just lots and lots of cactus from all over the world. Apparently two falcons also visit but we didn't see them. Nice birds all over but very quick so photos not possible. The owners are passionate about their gardens and share their experiences if you want them to. A donation is appreciated when you leave. This is NOT like the manicured and commercial cactus garden in Lanzarote. An hour should suffice.

What a fantastic visit !!! A special place
Mar 2017 • Friends
We had heard how good this attraction was on TripAdvisor but our visit exceeded our high expectations
We were greeted by the 2 enthusiastic owners and immediately paid a visit by the local falcon who flew down to be fed on scraps of meat - absolutely amazing
We were able to walk round and see how the couple had revived the garden as it had been left to grow wild over many years by previous owners - it's superb now though !
It's free to visit and entirely funded by visitor donations - so go along and enjoy this hidden gem !!
Can't recommend enough 👍

Extraordinary cactus garden!
Sep 2016 • Couples
The garden is very big, and the owners are working on an expansion at the moment, too. Some cacti have been growing there since the 70s or 80s, and have become huge. The plants and cacti are brought in from around the world.
The owners are very kind people, who are very enthusiastic about showing you around the garden. They don't charge an entree fee, but they ask for a donation at the end. You can decide for yourself how much to donate. We loved it!
The garden is open on tuesdays, wednesdays and thursdays, from somewhere in the morning to about 14:00.

An Oasis of Tranquillity
Sep 2015 • Couples
I visited the cactus garden with my wife as we both love plants and flowers of all types, Palmex did not disappoint, in fact, in my opinion it was getting close to the standard of Majorelle in Marrakesh for not only the superb array of plants but also as it was like walking into an oasis of calm and quiet.

The owners greeted us and pointed us in the direction of the garden and initially it has to be said I wasn't expecting much but how wrong I was!! from the small court yard where you park the garden opens out into a spectacular display, when we visited in September it was a riot of colours and textures. As a keen wannabe photographer it was a slice of heaven, it was a very calm day very hot and sunny which allowed me to get some fabulous shots close up and distance. The layout of the garden is lovely and takes you on a winding pathway crossing in and out of light and shade to display the plants to their best potential, in doing this it also creates hot and cool areas for anyone walking around.

We spent over 2 hours wandering around, enjoying the sights and smells of the garden, I will go back again if we are in La Palma and would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in flora, there has to be close to if not over a thousand wonderfully maintained and presented examples and the owners were friendly and very knowledgeable. They welcomed us into what is essentially their private garden, making us feel at ease and that nothing was a problem.

We could have spent far more time there but as it was hot we both needed a drink, it would have been good to get maybe a bottle of water or a coffee and sit taking in the ambiance for a further hour or two but there are no facilities, I am sure it wouldn’t have been a problem if we had taken something ourselves but on this occasion we hadn’t.

In summary if you are on La Palma you need to visit Palmex, enjoy the garden and meet its wonderful and welcoming owners, many thanks to both for making our visit a pleasure.
