    Great Experience and Courses
Played both the Royal & Ocean Course and have no complaints. Both courses in great condition, greens ran true although Royal greens were a little slow. The Ocean greens were fantastic. The courses are well designed, a good test of skill and well maintained. The clubhouse offered good food and drink at reasonable prices and the service was excellent throughout. The golf buggies are modern, have good technology and iced water is provided. If I had any slight niggles, it would be pace of play was quite slow at times and I think buggies are expensive (50E).

    Good & bad
Just returned home from playing the ocean course . Things went well from the off, a nice welcome from all the staff including course managers and waitresses . The course itself was generally in great condition, maybe a few areas that needed attention but overall very good. The problems started five hours later when we returned to the bar / restaurant for refreshments & food. I happened to innocently impede a male waiter to whom I apologised to but was given a death stare . After that situation I noticed him talking quite aggressively to two elderly guys about where they were sat down to watch TV ,the plan was to stay at the resort to relax and watch the football but the barman refused to turn up the sound so people could hear the commentary so at this point we just got up and left . Shame that one member of staff spoilt the day overall

Great Course, Great bar, Rude starter
Royal Course Course was in great condition and some incredible views. Fun ride in the buggy, don’t think it’d be easily walkable. Greens were pure and everything else seemed well looked after. Club house is great to sit down for a beer after. Only negative about the experience is the starter was very rude telling us to not wait for the green to clear on the first tee when the people in front weren’t even past the first bunkers and all 4 of us would’ve hit them or over them. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend playing here.

    Bit elitist, courses are mediocre.
Very high end, elitist club. Prices are high for food at Spikes or for golf apparel. The two 18 hole courses are a fusion formed from one Cotton designed course split into two. The result is mixed at best. Both courses have 9 fantastic holes and the others holes look like an after thought. Dom Pedro old course is a better track.
Thank you for your preference and for your review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kind regards, Vale do Lobo

    Beyond perfection
5 out of 5 is just not enough to describe the experience you have when you arrive at Vale do Lobo. The staff are attentive and extremely helpful giving a 100% customer service experience. Then you have the Golf Course itself. You are greeted by a starter who give the basic information about distances in metres, GPS, ice boxes with water on the buggy. Then the course welcomes you into a green, lush blanket of beauty. The tees were regularly changed and the fairways watered to perfection. Finally the greens were probably the purest greens I have played on including Belfry and Forest of Arden. We felt like we were kings and queens and as the anticipation of the signature 16th hole par 3, became closer you still could not realised how good that hole is. 2/3 of our group cleared the canyons - a 20 handicapper with a driver (who was ecstatic!) And a 7 handicap with a hybrid (relieved) After the round the restaurant and Tikki bar staff were once again amazing, ensuring we had everything we needed or wanted. Overall an incredible experience which I cant wait to repeat.
Dear Mr. Bobski Thank you very much for sharing your experience at Vale do Lobo Golf with us! We appreciate your preference and look forward to welcoming you back for more unforgettable moments! Warm regards, Vale do Lobo

Shuttle bus provided from each green to the next tee as well as tour guide would help! There were some very attractive holes on the royal golf course but the walk around all the villas inbetween each hole was ridiculous. The amount of roads we had to cross was also ridiculous. It was like taking a tour around million pound villas with a set of golf clubs.
By far the worst part of the experience was turning up for a 7.40am tee time to find out that the bar was closed which meant no water or any refreshments. The bar being closed at that time is understandable, so why not have a fridge in the pro shop 🤔 I asked the woman at the reception desk and she spoke to me like I was being unreasonable to ask where i could get some water.
The refreshment buggy only started at 9.30 so we were on the 11th until we got any water.
Just to top the expensive experience off, we got to the 12th tee to see 3 women down the fairway who 'were just playing 9 holes' who i can only assume came out of the back garden of a villa thinking they could push their way onto a busy golf course because they were members. They spoke like they owned it!!!
Very expensive for a very average golf course and very very poor service. So many good golf courses in the algarve where you can get what you pay for, a good test of golf and good service which isn't driven up by the millionaires paradise feeling that most of the pretentious people that live around there go for!!
Will not be back!!

Booked the sunset golf (5pm start, €1 euro for under 14’s etc) yesterday, mainly to give my son who is starting out in golf an opportunity to play a course in the Algarve while on holiday with the family. After a fantastic experience at the Old Course the previous day, this was such a let down.

Not sure where to start. From the rude golf bag attendant, to the unhelpful girl at the desk, it was not the experience we were looking for.

Bag guy comments on my son’s shorts not being suitable, despite being tailored and then apologises. Off to a bad start. Then is downright rude when I take a wrong turn to the practice area (SO small by the way). And finally the starter just not bothered giving you any advice - pin positions etc. I thought because we were a sunset tee time but reading other reviews I think just poor at customer service.

Then I ask the receptionist if my son and I can play as a two rather than as a four - apparently no later tee times but then I see the tee sheet and there is plenty so again just not interested in accommodating.

The course was in good condition but feels like playing golf in a housing estate rather than on the Algarve. Overall a disappointing experience and I won’t be rushing back.

We were having 8 buggies as a group of 16. We paid for 9 because two players both paid for the same buggy. So one of them received a refund. Then the starter told us we had only paid for 7 because “the office were saying so”. We provided receipts and the buggy attendant came over and they admitted they had the 8 receipts between them. Then just as our 2nd group was teeing off, a 3rd member of staff came over and shouted just as one was about to hit. Saying again, that we had only paid for 7. Didn’t seem interested that the starter had already sorted it.

She wouldn’t let us go until we paid an extra €50. Had the attitude of “if you don’t like it, complain to the golf director”.

I seriously suggest anyone who comes here keeps receipts and do not hand them over to anyone else.

Customer service sadly lacking. This was my 3rd time here and it’s a shame that the rudeness and arrogance of the admin staff ruined the day for all 16 of us.

The courses are always good. Shame about the management.

Eight of us played golf from the 4th to the 7th of March. Four of us hired clubs at the resort. We noted that they were well used and when we brought it to the attention of the staff they said “well that’s all we have.”
On day three when I hit a driver off the 10th tee, my driver broke just as it connected with the ball. I was charged €150 for a replacement even though it broke during fair usage; I complained, but my complaint fell on deaf ears.
It had rained heavily on day three; when we collected the clubs in the morning of day four, they were still soaking wet. We asked for towels to dry them and were told the towels were used for cleaning the buggies….you couldn’t make it up!!!
My replacement driver was also damaged, so I insisted on getting a different one which they duly obliged.
Both courses seemed to somewhat neglected. They were certainly not in the condition they have been in the past.
Needless to say I will not be returning anytime soon.
Tip:If you’re hiring clubs, make sure you check their condition before you take them on the course.

Very disappointing after care and consideration to my son and his friend, after they were attacked on the 6th hole on the Vale do Lobo Royal course on Tuesday 20th August 2024.

They have been traumatised by the experience, and it’s not the fact that it happened, but the lack of empathy and genuine care shown afterwards by the staff to whom I brought my concerns.

I was dealing with a staff member called Joaquim, who appeared to be more concerned about who was legally responsible for the dogs, rather than actually being interested in how my son and his friend was after the horrific event.

Please see part of the reply below:

“The golf course is in the Vale do lobo Resort, however the roads are public, we have reported the situation to the municipal kennels, as they are the entity responsible for the stray dogs (or the owner of the dogs if they have one).”

They completed 5 holes, were attacked on the 6th hole and surprisingly didn’t want to play any longer.
Joaquim refunded the boys the money for their round and feels that’s the appropriate response. I asked him for a voucher for the two boys to play the Ocean Course as a good-will gesture, in the future. The answer was “no” - appalling level of care and customer service, given the trail of events!!

Vale do Lobo Golf resort staff, you should be totally ashamed of yourselves…

Dear David Buch, We genuinely appreciate your feedback and sincerely apologize for the upsetting experience that your son and his friend had. Joaquim's top priority was to ensure the immediate safety of everyone and to prevent any potential hazards for other guests following this unfortunate incident. Despite the circumstances being beyond our control, we provided a full refund for the round as a gesture of goodwill. Your understanding and support are invaluable to us, and we remain committed to consistently prioritizing the safety and well-being of all our guests. Kind regards,

My friend and I have played here every year since 2018, we have really enjoyed it. This year was a totally different experience, the worst treatment I've received in 30 years of golfing. We took our two 12 year old boys for the first time. The staff were unfriendly and condescending. First of all we were told the boys had to have their own bags, so we were forced to go bag to the reception to rent an empty bag to put on the cart. On the first tee, the boys were asked to lift their shirt up. When one did not have belt loops we were told we couldn't play. So we left without being able to play. The boys were dressed smartly in cotton shorts but because they had no belt loops we were not allowed on. To top it all off there was no-one there on a Saturday who could process a refund so we have to return next week. I've played at some of the nicest clubs in the world and I understand dress codes, but I also understand warmth and common sense. There are much more welcoming clubs nearby.

Very nice course, have loved going there many years in a row.

HOWEVER, this year after looking forward to it for the entire year, we were kicked off the course and not refunded over some belt loops. When we got to the first tee, a member of staff said we couldn’t play because an 11 year olds shorts didn’t have belt loops. The belt wasn’t even visible and his shirt had to be lifted to see it, and it wasn’t like the shorts weren’t smart either. We were told to either go buy some extortionate shorts from the shop or go home. When we went to get a refund from reception, no one had the authority to refund us the €300+ we had spent. What makes it worse though is that the staff at reception didn’t have belt loops, and shorts in the shop didn’t even have belt loops. The dress code online doesn’t say you need belt loops.

Not to mention the fact that we needed empty golf bags for the kids who were sharing clubs, or the fact that two kids weren’t allowed to sit in the buggy next to an adult and one had to walk instead.

Overall an awful experience that has put some of these kids off of golf as a whole.

I was really looking forward to playing here, we paid nearly €300 for 2golfers and a buggy, a bit expensive but hoped it would be worth it, sadly not, we booked a tee time of 7:10 so we could avoid the busiest time. From the first tee the fairway was extremely wet and the greens were very damp as well, as we played through the next few holes we saw a green keeper with what can only be described as a fireman’s hose saturating the fairways, thus meant not only did the ball not roll even in the middle of the fairway but every step I took made water come over my shoes soaking my feet, I was lucky not to get trench foot, some of the fairways were like the Somme.we persevered and then had to take our life in our hands zigzagging through the villas and main roads just to get to the next hole. Again we carried on, the next issue was the buggy which broke down 3 times and would only go in reverse until someone could come and get it going again, we eventually finished our round and I approached the reception to complain, I got a stupid grin and shrugged shoulders from them, as if to say oh well we have had your money tuff. A gentleman I presume was in management the came over and brushed of our issues one of which he claimed was our fault as the buggy must have come off the designated pathway and it works on gps so on the 16th it loses signal, never mentioned this when we booked, in summary to expensive under maintained over watered and very average golf course, I would like to point out I have played all over the world so am quite an experienced player, my suggestion if you are going to play don’t book early morning it’s a disaster

Loud music blasting out across the entire complex until 130am every night from the VDL bar. I am not against a party but for a family vacation this is not ok.
Do not come to vdl if you have a family. It has been ruined by turning the central complex into a noisy nightclub

We played several rounds here while golfing as a family on holiday. While we appreciated the €1 rate for juniors, the course is not worth the green fees they are charging adults. Tee to green was very spongy, grass overgrown throughout the fairways. And pace of play is horrendous. 4.5 hours to play in buggies! Worse is the conditions of the overall facility. Cart path in shambles in many areas, poorly maintained driving range and only water on the course is from overpriced buggy. Much better golf to be had at Quinta de Lago or San Lorenzo for these rates.
