Jabreen Castle is a beautiful fortification located just south of Bahla. It features beautiful interior and mighty defensive walls.

Visiting Jibreen Castle (also spelled Jabreen) was a highlight of my journey around Oman. With all of the rooms and the fascinating history of the castle and Imam Bel’arab bin Sultan Al Yarubi, who had the castle constructed in 1670, it is best to use a guide or an audio guide.
During my visit, I learned that the wood ceilings utilized teak and mahogany from Tunisia and Zanzibar. Gypsum was also among the materials used to build the castle. The first floor included a lovely library and a sitting room as well as a jail. The steps to the second floor included steps that could trip intruders and provide sound to alert the Sultan to the intruders. That was important since the Sultan’s suite was on the second floor!
The castle also included a dining room, separate jails for men and women, a Madrasah and the Imam’s Tomb. The room I found most impressive was the Sun & Moon room with its intricately designed wood ceiling, seven windows and high ceiling. There was also comfortable seating for guests.
To ensure the castle was self contained, there was even a courtroom with the judge’s bench, scales of justice and a small exit door for those who were convicted.
Naturally the Omani flag was proudly displayed at the upper tower of the castle. I learned that the colors of the flag represented the following: Red-blood shed for the country; Green-fertility of the land; White-Peace. The two swords are the symbol of the royal family.
This castle provides a fascinating glimpse into the history of the great Sultanate of Oman.

We visited as part of our Oman trip the fort "Jabreen", which was built at the end of the 17th century. The complex is very well preserved and is also very well maintained. Various rooms with artistically decorated windows and ceiling graphics can be admired. An audio guide with various languages is included in the entrance fee.

Visited on our way from Nizwa to Muscat, so glad we stopped. This restored gem, unlike it’s original intention, is such a peaceful and beautiful place to spend time. The photos simply don’t do it justice.

Elegant castle. It was very interesting hearing about the history of the castle/house and visiting Imam's tomb. Nice decorated rooms.

We found Jabreen Castle (note that there are lots of different spellings of Jabreen (Jibreen, Jabrim, Jabrin and more) a very interesting place. There were so many different routes to take when wandering around the castle. The rooms within the castle also varied a lot in their shapes, sizes and decoration. The defences within the castle were impressive (never seen so many different murder holes (in the wall, floors and ceilings)). Well worth a visit.

One of the best Castles I've visited in the GCC . Well restored and lots to see and discover inside. A bit like a rabbit warren with loads of staircases and interconnecting rooms and nooks to discover.
Lots of stairs to climb and walking so one needs to be reasonably fit with good knees and quadricep muscles.

Jabreen also spelled Jibreen Castle or Jabrin Castlem is superiority with beauty among all castle in the whole of Oman according to Oman trippers.
This historic castle was constructed in the late 17th century and is located in Bahla in the Al Dakhiliyah( same place of Bahla fort -a must for visit) about 175 KM away from MCT.
The average time spend to the castle is approx 20- 30 minutes.
The castle is open from Saturday to Thursday from 9am to 4pm and on Friday from 8am to 11am. Entry fee is 500 baizas for adults.
During our visit ( March and June ) it remains closed .So we had photos outside and the nearby date palm plantation.

Jabreen dates back to about 600 hundred years ago and is located in the interior region of Oman, just 30km north of Nizwa. The castle has undergone an extensive renovation in the past years and gives the visitor an image of how life was in Iman in that period. It's huge and there are many chambers inside the castle all of which served a specific purpose during the years of its prime.
One could expect to spend about an hour or two admiring its beauty and elegance.

We are going to Oman in October 2018. Arriving on 15 October 8 am and leaving 20 October at 9am for Dubai. We would like to concentrate more on nature than culture but we would like to do some of the best cultural experiences like the Mosque etc. Is it best to do it on your own or with a tour guide? Can you please recommend a tour plan and accommodation accordingly?

Hi Hans,
its much cheaper and you are much more flexible to do it on your own with rent a car. We did two weeks travelling with a small child and it was great. The organised tours are way too expensive and not necessary. Oman is really safe and the motorways are new and nice. Google maps works well. In fact you don´t even need 4 x 4 vehicle. The only two times we needed it was - in the desert and high in the mountains Jebel Sham. Everything else is easily accessible by normal car.

Buongiorno: io ho viaggiato in Oman nel gennaio del 2015 e le temperature erano molto gradevoli. Penso che in novembre le temperature dovrebbero essere leggermente superiori, ma comunque primaverili. Saluti Aldo
