Sensory overload. Park at the stone house on the main road and walk 10 mins to a magical, Jurassic and hauntingly beautiful beach. I have never seen anything like it. I don’t want people to come and make it popular but it’s my duty to recommend to everyone!

not easy to get to, more people than anticipated, not clean and the entrance rough and uneven which was not a problem but unkempt and unattractive

This is a small but beautiful wildlife reserve, with access to a river and beach. It is a haven for migrating birds at the appropriate times of year but a wonderful, peaceful place for a walk at any time. There are two elevated bird hides. Free entry. Car park on the north side of the main road running behind the beach.

The reserve area is very nice to walk through and the beach is good. But, overflowing rubbish bins were not nice. Also the lack of any written information. Why are beer bottles on the beach not cleared up? Typical Sicilian, Im afraid.

We went to this reserve with the kids a few years back and enjoyed the fish in the creek and the little beach a bit further on. Bring water though as it is hot and they do not sell any food or drinks on site

This is a really nice, and interesting spot. Starting at the car park, there is a decent exhibition centre with several local species exhibited. The ranger spent good English, and confirmed that I had seen a stoat at Cava d'Ispica. Sicily is a riot of colour in May, and the reserve was no exception. There was plenty of birdlife, especially warblers, but very difficult to see them.. There are 2 hides by the river, and a kingfisher and flock of egrets were soon spotted, but little else. The river opens onto a fine sandy beach with much driftwood. Plants and trees are labelled, but as so often, erratically. A verey pleasant spot to spend the day.

It's a natural reservation situated by the estuary of the Irminio river, between the localities Marina di Ragusa and Donnalucata; where the river flows into the sea.
The river crosses the Province of Ragusa fron North to South; in fact it rises under the Mount Lauro, an inactive volcano that marks the Northern border of the Province.
In the middle of its course it crosses another natural reservation: the Lake of St Rosalia, located in the territory of the Capital town .
The river, in a remote past, was navigable (Roman epoch).
Anyhow, the reservation stands at just 1 Km from Marina di Ragusa, an important touristic town and right aside 2 two large and well equiped beaches.
The reservation is very easily accessible from the provincial road.
Fun, Beaches and Nature.
