I'm honestly so shocked at the amount of 5 star reviews and recommendations for this place. I booked a reservation for Sunday carvery only to be called back later in the day to be told no carvery due to "technical issues" which is fine, the normal menu would be available. I wanted to send my gran off from visiting with a nice meal before she left town, but this was anything but that. We were early, so as soon as we parked the car we got out to see the river and my daughter wanted use the playground. Nearly all outdoor tables were covered in garbage, dishes, and food from the night before, which should have been out first inkling to leave and find somewhere else to eat. Giving the benefit of the doubt we walked in to the pub to be seated for our reservation, though we didn't really need one as there was no one else there but staff. We waited awkwardly for about 10 minutes as the bartender chatted & made drinks for 2 girls that arrived at the same time as us. They obviously knew each other & were taking their sweet time catching up, which is fine but when you have customers waiting to be sat you should probably wait to do that? We chose to sit outside because inside was musty, smelly, and visibly dirty. Looking over the menu, everything seemed okay, so we decided on Halloumi fries to start, I wanted a chicken Caesar salad, my husband wanted pork ribs, gran wanted fish & chips, and we got my daughter sausage & chips (asked for peas instead of beans). I go to order and was told they were out of Halloumi fries, out of pork ribs (ordered beef short ribs instead), and they didn't have peas to substitute for the beans. All that aside, we still ordered the rest and asked for some steamed vegetables for my daughter instead of peas. There is no real waiting service, you just order at the bar you get a buzzer when your food is ready, which personally I find super tacky. Our buzzer goes off and my husband and I go to get the food, only to be disappointed immediately upon seeing our plates. Fish & chips were leaking grease and oil which I knew my gran wouldn't like, though she did end up eating it purely because this would be her last meal until she got home. My husbands ribs looked fine, but were tasteless and the mashed potatoes that came with were yellow, hard, and also tasted absolutely disgusting - almost sour? My daughters sausages & chips were the best looking thing we got but even then they were dry, chips were hard and oversalted, and the "steamed vegetables" were quite literally just a dish of microwaved frozen cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots. Everything was wet (because they were frozen), and the cauliflower was literally brown. Carrots looked pretty sad and were completely mushy. My "caesar salad" was a bowl of refrigerated lettuce, red onion, and tomato, with some grey chicken on top and the entire bowl was drizzled in salad cream. A chicken caesar salad is romaine lettuce, croutons, parmesan cheese, anchovies, and caesar salad dressing, with grilled chicken on top. I refused to take my salad to the table as I knew it would be disgusting, and the bartender girl started arguing with me about how it wasn't salad cream which was then later confirmed by the chef to indeed be salad cream. I sent back my plate and was asked if I wanted anything else on the menu, which I declined and just wanted my money back instead. I don't normally complain, but I was absolutely not about to pay 13 pounds for that "salad". After that, the vibe completely changed and my family was treated very differently. The bartender girl had a horrid attitude and sat outside the main entrance, smoking 5 feet from the door, staring at my family. It was extremely uncomfortable. However, there was a very kind, apologetic young man who was trying to remedy the situation and I did really appreciate that. I know it isn't his fault, but whoever manages this place should be ashamed of themselves. Will absolutely not go back or recommend to Jude's Ferry to anyone. Even the beauty of the river was overshadowed by the awful food, staff, and general uncleanliness.

Very disappointed with our visit... this has to be the worst meal we have ever had whilst out.
Staff polite and friendly, but food awful. Potatoes were uncooked, veg wasn't drained before putting on the plate so the meal was just swimming in water. Won't be visiting again

Visited for carvery with family. Place was empty (not surprising) Had little choice of beers. Said they had no red wine so ordered something else then they found one bottle of red wine. On the carvery meat was OK but potatoes where hard and dry. Flys all round the restraunt spent most of the time waving them away from our meals. Had apple crumble for pudding which tasted like it had been microwaved as the crumble was soggy. The whole place seemed run down and in need of an update. Bar lady was very friendly which is proberly the only good thing about the visit. After we had finished our meal we noticed the chef vapping behind the carvery counter in front of the food. If I seen this before I would of walked out. Some would argue this isn't smoking but for me this is unacceptable. Also saw the two chefs sitting around in the main bar one vapping. I have visited here many times pre covid and the food and atmosphere were great and always very busy. I dont know if management have changed hands but unless it does I will not be visiting again

Dreadful! Nearly empty and not surprising. More staff than punters but the place was filthy. Dead flies on the windowsills and many live ones flying around. Tables were dusty and had glass marks on them . The manager needs sacking. Shame because there was a lovely open fire and it could be lovely. I saw several people complaining about their meals in the carvery. One refused to pay. I hope this review serves as wakeup call and it improves soon

I went for lunch with my adult daughter. It’s such a beautiful location and it was a sunny day. I had prawn baguette and fries. The fries were awful - anaemic and tasted like rotten fat that had been reused for weeks and weeks. I told the waitress (manager I believe) that the chips were awful. She just said ‘oh, sorry’. No offer of compensation. The prawn baguette was okay. I heard the place had new management so went to try it out. But sadly it has not improved. So much potential though, and I’m so sad to leave it a bad review!

Get a better chef, we had to pay upfront to discover the food was appalling we went to get our carvery and evreything had almost run out and was cold left overs. Really unenjoyable experience. £24 sounds good value but its a small fortune if its wasted, and it was. I remember years ago it being a fab place to eat, but we wont eat there again. Never. And i would never recommend it.

Beautiful surroundings and place. Unfortunately that's the only positive thing to say.
Not one member of staff wore a mask or understood social distancing.
The carvery chef had his hands all over the meat. My plate was soaked in water after the vegetables were served. The gravy was just brown water. The roast potatoes were terrible.
I was appalled that a manager could charge for such poor food. Seriously the management need to change career.
