We were blinded by tourism marketing and (full of anticipation) made a day trip to the Alpe di Siusi. It was just horrible and we'll never come back here. The only positive first: The panorama is really beautiful. The rest is crass. One hotel block at a time spoils the landscape to the horizon. Across the “Alm” (not to be dazzled by the term, has nothing to do with an alpine pasture in the usual sense), there is a wide tar road with busy traffic (Large buses, many vans, Benz, Porsche and all other car brands). Hordes of eBikers ride felt everywhere. You feel like you're in a city park next to a golf course. After an hour we stopped our day trip and left this place of horror (for 53 EUR with the gondola!). Never again!

The Alpe di Siusi has a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. But they can also pay for it up there. You only want a few, preferably no cars left, but the transfer up and down is very expensive. The whole thing is kind of like a money printing machine. Best to run up and down or visit by bike. Take Vespers and beat them up there.

We have been going to the Seiser Alm for many years, but this year we had very bad experiences. Far too many reckless e-bikers on designated hiking trails. We were walking downhill on a meadow that is closed to cyclists. When a horde of around 20 e-bikers, with a local guide!! including children, rushed past us. When we pointed out that the path was closed, we were told that we were just tourists and should stay above the Brenner!!! They were locals and this was their home!! The locals in particular should set a good example. The cable cars should perhaps think about not taking cyclists up to the alpine pasture anymore, but letting them pedal up themselves, that might ease the situation a little. The path from the St. Ulrich mountain station to the Sporthotel Sonne alone is anything but nice for hikers, because too many cyclists ride up the mountain past pedestrians, sometimes at high speed. The hotel, etc. were great. But next year we will look for another area to hike in.

Ride the gondola or drive up the windy road. What awaits is the largest Alpine plateau in Europe. Fabulous views every direction. Numerous hiking trails spread out across the plateau. Bike rentals, lodging and restaurants as well at the top. An area of lovely meadows and stunning mountains.

Been here in early September. The landscape of the Seiser Alm is super beautiful, offers amazing views and the whole infrastructure is very well developed. Leasure options for everybody and all levels of difficulty. For very good reason this area is recognized as UNESCO world heritage. Must go when in south tyrol.

You will not be disappointed. The lifts were first class and even on busy days we never waited for more than 15 minutes.

In the summer, the combination of lush green hills, dotted with cows, horses, and little farmhouses or villages, under towering pink-tinged mountains, is so spectacular and rich that it is hard to take in. No description of the Dolomites can prepare you for the beauty, and in trying to soak it all in as we hiked around the meadows, we ached, glad we had come, and all we could do was keep breathing it in.

What should I said, if you are a nature lover this is the place to visit, with good hiking paths all around, and exquisite traditional food. You do not need an expensive camera to have amazing pictures.

We are staying in Siusi and waited out a few rainy days before taking the gondola up to Alpe di Siusi today (30 October 2018). In the town it was a clear day with blue skies - midway up the mountain we saw beautiful autumn colours with a backdrop of blue sky and green mountains. A little further up on the gondola there was a light snow dusting on the pine trees. To our incredible surprise, when we arrived at the top gondola station everything was completely covered in snow! The snow continued to fall throughout the day, our plans changed from hiking to building snowmen. One of the few truly unexpected surprises I have ever experienced. We returned to the blue skies and warm weather in Siusi in complete awe of the change in weather at altitude. An absolutely unforgettable day.
(PS The scenery is breathtaking, there's a lovely restaurant at the top station and gondolas are great, only 17 euro return per adult and our kids aged 4 and 8 years travelled for free.)

We spent a day on the Seiser Alm as part of our week skiing in Selva / Sella Ronda. We could have happily spent more time here as it is so beautiful. This area (the largest high-altitude Alpine meadow in Europe) offers all winter sports not just downhill skiing. There are plenty of cross-country tracks, snow-shoe walks, toboggan runs and a horse drawn sleigh. There are some nice mountain huts for food and although we have only seen it in winter am sure it would make a wonderful place for mountain biking or walking in the summer.
