Having lived in Arizona and traveled around the national and state parks of the US southwest, I was very impressed with the landscape. The rock formations are fantastic and interesting. The forest and views are also great.
We do a lot of biking and walking and did the 12+ km hike. The trail is very well marked. At 61 and 70 years of age it was tiring, there were some steeps,, though not too long, without the need for climbing over rocks or obstacles so I would rate the difficulty as moderate.
There is also a mountain hut restaurant that had very good food and was reasonably priced about 1/2 way through the hike.
A day or overnight trip to Dahn is well worth it. We spent three nights, did this day one and New Dahn Ruins day 2.

Starting near to the Pfalzblick hotel you can make a nice walk in the forest with some stunning rocks (Felsen).

We have done this walk from campsite Buttelwoog. The tour is well marked with signs. It is not a difficult track, but the views are amazing!

After our Rotary President had made a little publicity for the beauty of the 'rock path' in the evening, surprisingly all hikers in our group came forward to this 12.3-kilometer-long and more difficult hiking route. The route started at the hotel and runs mostly on narrow paths that open up attractive rock formations in the area. Impressive is the indescribable variety of shapes of the bizarre sandstone formations on the way, which were partly climbed. Half way there was a stop at PWV rest-house Schneiderfeld. After about 5 hours overall all hikers were back safely at the hotel.
