The beach in front of Lola's is a little more crowded, but if you walk to the right as you face the ocean, you will find some large expanses of sand about a half km down the beach that you can have all to yourself...More

I was told by locals to go surf at Playa Avellana, as I just started surfing when I arrived in Costa Rica. The beach was slightly crowded for surfing, but if you walked further down it was prime. The waves were constant and just perfect...More

Playa Avellana is a gorgeous clean beach. A great place to play in the waves and sunbath. In the rainy season there are few people on the beach.

Do explore the trail shown in the picture! After crossing the entrance to the beach, turn right and walk for a few hundred meters to get to the trail. The change of landscape was pretty amazing -- at the entrance and the end of the...More

45 minute drive from Tamarindo. 28 minutes on a washboard road with good sized holes that slow the drive once you leave the paved road.

Wonderful and uncrowded...great bar food. Fabulous surfing and nearby tide pools. If you are staying at Hacienda Pinella you pay $10 pp to get in but you get it back in food or drink Great pool for lounging. I loved it.

We drove from Tamarindo. The road was rough in our rental sedan, but we were so glad we went. I would recommend dining at Lola's, a sustainable and delicious restaurant on the beach.

I would recommend contacting Iguana Surf they are in Tamarindo. They can rent you a board and make arrangement to get you there, they can also provide you an instructor if you wish. I would suggest staying in Tamarindo... More
