I only entered the main entrance and a side room on the ground floor of my stay in Fondi, but I have to say that the castle was an impressive sight during day or night from the outside. It is a landmark that towers over beautiful Fondi and life centres around the castle especially during the warm summer evenings. It is a sight to behold witnessing the people of Fondi coming out in the evenings, eating, drinking, meeting each other and children playing in the streets until midnight. The castle towers seem like protective emblems of this friendly town. Enjoy your visit to this lovely and ancient town.

Very pleasantly surprised by this wonderful small town with a very rare example of an imposing castle built on flat ground in a valley. Apparently wonderful to visit on the 12th August when they relive history by making the castle the focal point of celebrations. Great view from the terrace on top of the castle. Very helpful and friendly staff. Fondi is definitely worth a visit with many great attractions close by.

Instead of going to the beach every day, we were looking for places to visit. From Gaeta it's barely a 20min drive. Nice historic town, old cobbled streets, good shopping streets, decent food & drink opportunities. You can visit the old castle walls, the museums etc. We spend c. 5-6h in town walking (incl lunch). Clean, well maintained.
Worth a trip

We visited the castle with friends who live in Fondi. As our friend speaks Italian he translated the explanations from a lovely volunteer guide about finds from the local area. This included a wonderful sarcophagus which depicted both Christian and Pagan symbols.
The views from the top were great and the roofs of Fondi opened up before us.
If you don't speak or understand Italian then it's probably not going to be much fun other than to get the views and look at the artefacts but it was cheap entry and we enjoyed our time.

The castle has a small museum where you can have a look at some artifacts, then you can go to the terrace whcih is fully restorated and offers 360 degree views of the town, beautiful.

Looks great from the outside and that's about it. Not much to see and do if and when it is open. I think you can walk up to a viewing platform however it was not open when we where there
