The Castle of Conversano dates back to 6th century, although the current castle was built in the 11th century on the ruins of the prior structure.
The castle is located in central Conversano, on the highest point of the city, where it has been able to dominate the surroundings and sea.
A pity that it seems not possible to visit the interior of the castle.

Great place to visit if you are staying in Puglia. At night the castle is well lit and there are plenty of places to eat, have an espresso or to enjoy a gelato. The back streets give you a great sense of how life was, and still can be lived in an Italian small town.

Everything in historic centre of Conversano is medieval. The castle has an interesting exhibition of period clothing dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. It also had a set of 400 year old paintings depicting a legend of the Crusades. It's a pity that one can't access the ramparts of the towers. Perhaps further restoration is needed

The Castle was located 5 minutes from our B&B, located in the main piazza of town, Piazza Castello, where the locals came for their daily passeggiata. We got into the swing of it and joined them the 7 nights we stayed in Conversano as part of our tour of Puglia. There are lots of restaurants in the area, some located within the castle. A new park has recently been opened next to the piazza frequented by the locals and visitors alike. The castle and surrounds are lit up at night and make a lovely place to relax on warm summer evenings.

A main tourist feature worth a visit when you arrive in Conversano.
My husband & I were staying in via San Giovanni Bosco which was approximately a 5 minute walk to the town centre & the castle.
This beautiful piece of architecture is stunning by day & well lit at night. There is plenty of seating to just sit down & relax within the area.
Located within the grounds are some delightful restaurants, cafe & bars. 😊😊

This castle was situate in the main square. We could not visit much as there was work being done, plus a painting was being wrapped to be transported elsewhere.
Looks like it is most interesting, but a pity we could not visit properly.

The castle is nice to look at, near the cathedral and the main piazza. It was constructed in phases over 100s of years, so its kind of hodgepodge of styles. There is a small museum inside the castle that has some historic paintings, some contemporary paintings, some clothing from the late 19th to mid-20th century, and some historic band items. The clothing and band items were most interesting to me, which included some everyday items from the 1900s. Its very inexpensive and worth a visit it you have an hour to kill. Plus the same ticket gets you into the archeological museum, which is pretty interesting. Very inexpensive.

Beautiful in the day and at night. !!! This Castle is the center attraction in the historic central of conversano. It is illuminated in the evening when the city comes to life. I woul highly recommend eating at one of the restaurants near its base for a truly royal experience !

This Castello Aragonese castle is beautiful. I loved the art work. The Castle is breath taking, it's amazing structurally. I love Bari its turned into a really touristy city but the churches and street vendors are wonderful to encounter. July 2015. Summer dress or shorts is required, very hot but coastal breeze.
