The Piazza del Popolo of Fermo is so nice and just adds glamour to the beautiful city of Fermo. Apart from the Piazza Fermo is also very nice and definately worth a visit. Of course don't forget to see the main Piazza.

What a pleasant suprise! I knew that Fermo would have been an interesting visit but i would have never imagined such a beatiful square. The buildings are very nice and perfectly preserved. One of the best spot in the Marche!

Fermo is a very nice town with a rich history as the town used to be an important centre since Roman times. The piazza is very big and beautiful with several restaurants, bars and pizzerias plus a few shops. No cars allowed so safe very for children. There is a museum with beautiful pieces including a Rembrandt near the far corner of the square.

This square has been featured in a number of magazines as one of the most beautiful the region. It has a curious shape of an arrow. There are interesting medieval builidings, cafés and bars where you can stop for a drink or snack.

This is a great little spot to have a lazy long afternoon lunch or early drinks as the sun goes down. Surrounded by lovely little cafes it is a great place to people watch. We had breakfast in town one morning when a group of vintage cars all arrive and pulled up in the piazza which was lovely to have a close up look at. Good spot and one you cannot miss during your visit to Fermo.

Fermo is well off the beaten tourist path, so it may come as a surprise when you first encounter this large, long, elegant piazza lined with bars and restaurants. Well worth a detour.

There is a lot to discover going downhill from the cathedral at Piazzale Girfalco at the summit of the hill. The old city of Fermo is quite vivid with many houses from a long time ago. It is amazing to see all beautiful sand brick houses, all different and with the many narrow cobbled stone alleys connecting houses and small streets. It is a quite impressive work that the constructors did many hundred years ago.
You must also visit the interesting historical and very well kept buildings in the centre of the old town. Walking downhill you pass the impressive Teatro dell ’Aquila, a theatre and opera house holding 1 000 listeners in the parquet and the five galleries. The theatre is still in use for operas, classical music and plays.
A little further down you reach the Piazza del Popolo from 1529. The piazza is beautiful with perfectly harmonious proportions. Here you find the Palazzo dei Priori now housing a “Pinacoteca” with a rich collections of paintings including one made by Rubens. To the left is the Palazzo degli Studi which houses the Biblioteca with a rich collection of books from the 17th century and the famous big wooden globe, “Il Mappamondo”. And just close to the Piazza you find the extraordinary “Cisterne Romane”, built 2 000 years ago and containing 30 enormous water storage cisterns. Some of them are still in use.
But Fermo is not only an interesting historic place. Around Piazza del Popolo you also find many small stores and restaurants. You can stop by Roberto’s Alimentari for some fresh fruit, bread, olives, prosciutto. Further down the Corso Cefalonia there’s Luigi’s bookshop offering, besides Italian literature, also high quality books in English. Along the Corso you find many small shops selling genuine Italian clothes, shoes, leather goods as well as locally produced food and wine. Finally, don’t miss l’Enoteca, a genuine Marche restaurant with lovely food and wines offered by Giuseppe.
The beach in Porto San Giorgio is only 7 kilometres away. We always stay with Luigi at Mathilda, Il Cavalieri Neri.
You can easily explore the landscape by car. Southwards you can visit for instance Monterubbiano, Ripatransone, the winery Cantina dei Colli Ripani and Torre di Palme. Going north you may head for Monte Urano, Monte Granaro and Monte San Pietrangeli. A trip to Amandola and the small cities lining the Monti Sibillini gives unforgettable memories. Either direction, the landscape is breath-taking and gives you a sense of humility and gratefulness.

Nice easy square to visit, several cafe's on the square and several museums line the square also. Nice for a view and a picture or two but that is it.

It 'a very pleasant place, very impressive and full of inspiration. At a certain time in the afternoon, People's Square is filled with kids playing football and the locals seem pervaded by a relaxed stupor. I find this city parlor very "Felliniesque".
