Abbiamo visitato questo splendido Teatro gratuitamente e siamo stati accompagnati nella visita dal signor Sebastiano che, gentilmente e con passione, ci ha parlato sia della storia del Teatro, sia di Avola e dei suoi monumenti.

Teatro molto bello, trovato un po' per caso durante una passeggiata per le vie di Avola. L'interno è stato restaurato e ricostruito dopo lungo abbandono, restituendo il luogo alla sua funzione originaria, a quanto pare con buon successo di pubblico. La storia del teatro e alcuni aneddoti legati alla scena musicale di Avola (come l'incredibile storia del Maestro Salvatore Falbo diventato famoso in Giappone ma pressoché sconosciuto in patria) ci è stata raccontata con grande passione e orgoglio da una guida del posto.Il teatro merita senz'altro una visita se si passa per Avola!

È un teatro bellissimo, pur non essendo grandissimo è uno dei gioielli della cittadina di Avola. La guida che ci ha accolto, ci ha permesso di conoscere oltre al teatro anche tutta la storia di Avola.

Il teatro è ubicato in Via Guglielmo Marconi, angolo Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi, accanto alla Chiesa di Santa Venera in Piazza Teatro.
Venne edificato nella seconda metà del XIX secolo, in stile rinascimentale, su progetto dell’architetto Salvatore Rizza. E’ stato ristrutturato recentemente dopo che era stato dismesso dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
Preceduta da alcuni scalini, il prospetto principale (Via Guglielmo Marconi) si sviluppa su due piani. A pianterreno c’è un porticato leggermente avanzato costituito da 3 portali con arco a tutto sesto, poggianti su pilastri squadrati con cornici e sormontati da una ghiera vetrata; ai lati, rivestito in bugnato, sono presenti altri due semplici portali (uno per lato) sormontati da una cornice. Al piano superiore, sopra il porticato, tra 4 lesene striate con capitelli corinzi, ci sono tre finestroni preceduti dalla balaustra e sormontati da timpani lineari e da archi a tutto sesto con ghiera vetrata; ai lati due finestroni (uno per lato) sono preceduti dalla balaustra e sormontati da timpani lineari. L’opera è completata da un cornicione dentellato e sotto, in corrispondenza del porticato, appare un elegante fregio in bassorilievo.
Non abbiamo visitato l’interno.

Un piccolo gioiello costruito a cavallo del 1872 1876 Il teatro sorge sulle fondamenta di una Chiesa che alcuni frati dell’attiguo convento di San Domenico,avevano iniziato a costruire ma poi non completarono. Il teatro sorge accanto alla chiesa di Santa venera infatti prima della costruzione dello stesso la Piazza prendeva il nome da questa chiesa poi prese dal teatro. La pianta è a ferro di cavallo all’italiana con tre ordine di palchi. All’esterno si presenta in modo armonico ed austero

Un piccolo gioiello dalla storia travagliata nel cuore di Avola. Merita sicuramente una visita, l'ingresso è gratuito salvo per assistere alle rappresentazioni in programma.

Già solo per il fatto che è gratuito vale la pena investire una ventina di minuti nella visita di questo gioiello ionico: una visita non troppo impegnativa che ci ha distratti tra una spiaggia e un'altra.
Il teatro si trova nel centro di Avola, raggiungibile facilmente dalle zone di Siracusa e Noto (a circa una ventina di minuti di auto).
L'entrata è gratuita, così come la guida che vi racconterà le curiosità del teatro.
Al piano superiore c'è anche una piccola mostra che spiega la storia della ristrutturazione del teatro e che raccoglie documenti, spartiti e cimeli dell'epoca.
Il teatro è davvero una bomboniera: assolutamente da vedere!
