Great exercise and some decent views. We go to gym and really hit it at least thrice a week and felt this hike was a 7/10 in difficulty. Very cloudy and windy at the top so we could not see anything so the views on...More
Credited with being the highest active volcano in the country, the Santa Ana Volcano is located about 2 hours from the city of Santa Ana in Cerre Verde National Park. The best way to access it without booking an official tour is to take the...More
I technically didn't make it to either Santa Ana or the Cerro Verde. But it was an interesting day, and I learnt there's an alternative way to get to and from the volcano.
I got the 11am bus to Cerro Verde given that I wasn't...More
The hike up is fantastic, the views at the top are unworldly. It is absolutely something that everyone must do. It takes about 2 hours, mostly uphill for getting to the top. If you have an average fitness level, you should be able to make...More
I really enjoyed this volcano. I recommend getting off at El Tibet restaurant and starting the hike from there (it's cheaper). This hike I found pretty easy. I think it's only like 3 km each way. Be prepared for lots of people, but it's still...More
Climbing this volcano is not easy, it’s kind of tough so make sure you have a good pair of sneakers and plenty of water, we wanted to give up but somehow we made all the way to the top(over two hours climbing to the top)...More

Sorry for the delay in responding... $3.00 person in the car to drive in the gate, $1.00 at same entrance to park. In the parking lot we got the overview of the hike from the tourist police of which the Maine theme was: it's challenging and bring water . Then we each gave our donation to the tour guide who, along with the tourist police will accompany us and answer questions. Then we turned around, got back in car, parked at El Tibet hotel (paid $2 to park there). El Tibet is down the hill from Cerro Verde Park and near the entrance to the hike starting point. Then we hiked from there up to the top of the crater. It was a fast hike and would be hard with children under 12. Turns out we SHOULD then have also paid just to enter the trail (there is a little cabana and bathroom at the trail head), but no one was working that day to take money. I think that would have been $3-6 per person ... All told, for non- Salvadoran person: about 10-12 bucks.
