We walked both the Lava Flow and El Ceibo trails, total about 6-7 km. With a 3 yr old and an 8 month old this took about 3 hours including time taking in the views. The hike is not difficult but carrying a 3 year...More

Too expensive for a 3km trekking and see volcanic rocks. Nothing more. There is a lake were you can swim.

I did this hike while visiting La Fortuna.I paid about $35 USD to go with a guided group. The trail wasn't terribly difficult if you are in moderate shape but it is a long hike timewise. Depending on the season, the hike is also extremely...More

The Arenal Volcano is a neat experience. The hiking is relatively easy and you can see the old lava flows. It was rainy the day we went but it was still worth the adventure if you are in the area.

In the Arenal Volcano National Park we hiked the Las Coladas trail, and the side trail to the Ceiba tree. It was a nice hike in a nice forest and tall grass area but nothing spectacular. The hike ends at two old lava flow fields...More

You can pretty much see the volcano from anywhere in the area, but going up close lets you see all of the vegetation that has grown from the volcanic rock and experience the magnitude of the last eruption. We went with a tour guide which...More

You can do many hikes on your own. A guide will help you spot wildlife you'd easily overlook, but most of the trails are open to the public. Some require fees.

Very easy to visit on your own, as we did. Pay entrance fee and park up next to the visitor centre. Not cheap I think it was $16 pp. Several relatively easy hiking trails that are signposted
