This monumental arch was built as a passageway between the monastery and adjoining school. The buildings were constructed to accommodate an increase in religious followers during the 17th century.

We visited the arch around 11am-12pm. There were many residents following us in attempt to sell us souvenirs. We were unable to take photos of the arch or even a selfie because we were not left alone. The arch looked nice, but we werent given...More

The road is shut down to local traffic so pictures are a breeze. Also a great view of Volcán de Agua, not pictured.

The whole street and area are beautiful to visit, especially the remains of church after the big earthquake.

This bell makes noise every 15 minutes all day and night. Very irritating. Especially in the middle of the night if you stay at the SantaCatalina hotel

Great place for a photo, be sure and go through to see the church and little shops. Lots of street vendors peddling the same low quality items

When visiting antigua you must visit the arch... And it's local tourist guide just south of them. He's been there for over 30 yrs. Kind gentleman. Went for a walk with me and explained some details of the town.

Not sure why/how this has become such a popular tourist attraction? It’s an arch. You can see the volcano IF the weather cooperates. 5 min, see it, take your picture and move on.

The iconic arch is as good as in all the photos. However, I recommend going early in the morning (before 10) to have more chance of the the Volcan Agua being viewable.
