Don’t expect the traditional tourist experience on this trip. This is not a developed tourist stop as of yet... and that is much of what makes it memorable. Don’t expect a ton of touristy amenities. The visitor’s center has flush toilets that were clean but...More

Went on the evening tour which involves being picked up at 2pm from our hotel in Antigua. Had to pick up a few other people along the way so was after 4pm by the time we arrived at the volcano. It's a tough walk (particularly...More

Most people who live outside of Guatemala see this site via a tour bus from Antigua. This review is for those who plan to see it in your own rental car. There are two entrances, We drove to the west entrance on paved roads until...More

This was a very easy hike (1h up). Anyone with a minimum level of fitness can do it without any issues. As a reward you will get to see active volcano, lava, and post-eruption formations.

Finished the Pacaya Volcano hike today. You can do it! Take your time, take breaks if needed or you can always opt for a horse if you get part way and can’t make it. The horses follow you up to a certain point in the...More

Pacaya is a very active volcano, but the trip is quite safe, unless Pacaya explodes! We had a wonderful hike with excellent guides. Toasted cheese sandwiches and marshmallows on the ground we were standing on.

Gorgeous night hike with a guide. Wear a headlamp or take a flashlight and warm clothing. If you have a walking stick, it may be helpful to bring. Bring some marshmallows to roast while you are up there :)

First about the hike. It's about 1.5h uphill but very doable with normal fitness. I would recommend buying/renting a stick from the kids at the base ($1 - you can keep it but most likely you'll just give it back to the kids when you...More

Hi Lone Traveller - there are many different agencies offering the tour with different schedules and prices. The basic sunrise tour can be booked at pretty much every agency and hostel. Hope that helps! Vc

We used Sin Fronteras for our whole trip. They are local as well. Excellent service. More high end.
