Day trip to Wave Rock
Dec 2019
The day tour "Wave Rock York Wildflowers & Aboriginal Culture" was a very long day with more than 12 hours driving and 700 km. It was an interesting ride and a few stops on the way. York and the dog cemetery were interesting. Hippo's Yawn was also beautiful but the highlight was definitely the amazing Wave Rock and the hike on top of it. The guide and the driver were good and gave lots of interesting information during the ride. Unfortunately the coach was to cold the air conditioning in the back did not work properly. The Wildlife Park was not in a good condition at all. The lunch at the Wildflower shoppe was good.

Hi EdiBa683, Thank you for taking the time to review our Wave Rock tour. We are glad you enjoyed your time and experience at Wave Rock and enjoyed the hike and view from the top. It is gratifying to hear you enjoyed each stop and the drivers knowledge about WA. We apologise the coach was not to it's usual standard and that you endured some discomfort on the drive, we will be looking into the Wildlife Park stop as we endeavor to provide our passengers with unique, beautiful and interesting locations and it is sad to hear that stop was unfulfilling. Thank you for travelling with us and we hope to welcome you onboard another tour!

An enjoyable tour
Dec 2019
I took this tour on the 15th December 2019.

After having taken a disappointing Adams tour a few days before I was a little wary, but this was so much better. I immediately felt that the driver and other staff member on this tour were warm and knowledgeable. This was definitely borne out during the day and I particularly enjoyed the facts about Wave Rock/Hyden Rock which we were all there to see. (Unfortunately I have forgotten their names, but I imagine that it will be easy to work out who was working that day).

Our first stop was a little country town called York, which I really enjoyed! We drove around the town first and the driver told us about the town and some of the buildings we were passing, which I appreciated, because the time we had there wasn't enough to take the full walking tour. However we did have a bit of time - I went to see the Catholic Church, then followed the visitor center's guide down the main street, then went to a gorgeous little bookstore in the old council chambers/fire station building.

The dog cemetery wasn't particularly special, but it was nice just to have a stop and stretch my legs. We also stopped briefly (not getting out of the bus) at a section of the rabbit proof fence, which I thought was interesting and a good thing to say I've seen.

Hippo’s Yawn was much bigger than I expected and impressed me more than I thought! Wave Rock was incredible. I also really enjoyed climbing and walking around on Hyden Rock (the monolith which Hippo’s Yawn and Wave Rock are both actually a part of). It is a fairly unique experience and there is such a sense of vastness looking out from the top – it was amazing. I was also awed by Mulka’s Cave – not a place that I probably would have known about if it wasn’t for the tour, but I’m so glad to have been there.

The food on this tour was 1) not very nice and 2) not what was indicated. The main meal wasn't anything this Australian would expect from an "Australian style country lunch", and stopping at a "remote country town" for afternoon tea turned out to be stopping at a petrol station! I wasn’t impressed by that at all. The food on my other Adam’s tour wasn’t great either and I feel this is definitely an area where Adams could improve. Also, I felt we spent too long stopped for lunch.

Other reviews have indicated that there is a lot of driving to get to wave rock, and this is true, but I felt the company were pretty up-front about that! I thought it was interesting to see the changing landscapes.

It was a hot day so the driver and guide were regularly giving out bottles of water, which was good. And I again appreciated being dropped right back at my hotel. Overall I'd recommend this tour.

Hi Rachel_Syd, Thank you for reviewing our service and it is great to see you enjoyed this tour without any bush fires hindering your experience! We are pleased you were able to enjoy our coach captain's commentary, and I will personally pass on your lovely experience of Tomas, he is an asset to our company with the knowledge he possesses and relationships he builds with our customers. Thank you for your feedback in regards to the food provided on the tour, I do apologise the food was not adequate and that is something we will take on board and improve. Our afternoon tea stop is restrictive with the location we are travelling in limiting us, unfortunately, to a food stop connected to a petrol station. We hope you enjoyed your stay in WA and you were able to experience those beautiful landscapes that are hard to get to as they are far away! Thank you for your reviews they will be taken into consideration and your time is appreciated.

Nor worth your time and money.
Oct 2019
This is a long day trip from Perth, which is not worth the time nor your money, as you'd be spending the day mostly driving through a boring landscape with a few boring stops at York, a gimmicky dog cemetery and finally arrive at Wave Rock only to fight off an infinite number of flies (and noisy Chinese tourists).
Lunch in the Wave Rock Bistro was truly horrific, too.
Skip this one.

Best photo shoot location ever
Feb 2019
Although the drive to Wave Rock from Perth was about 3 - 4 hours, but the trip is worth every minute of it.
This place is amazing. The rock is really like waves of the ocean. You can take beautiful photos here.
One tip is - to go there in the early morning when it is cool and no shadow overcast to get good pictures.

Not worth the time
Nov 2019
We did this day trip from Perth; it was a very long drive to see rocks that just weren't that interesting. Mile after mile of dried-out wheat fields. If it were an hour from Perth, it would be worth a half-day trip, but no more. Also, we were taken to a gas station/cafe for dinner, which was tacky and the food was (unsurprisingly) bad. Instead, spend your money and your time going to Margaret River.

Smile ...a wet day brings out the colour of Wave Rock
Aug 2019
A lady at the Espernace museum gave us her opinion that Wave rock looks best after some rain...the water brings out the rock's colours and makes it much more interesting to look at.

We arrived at the rock in a dry early afternoon, paid our $12 fee at the machine and went ahead to walk the short distance to the wave rock... just getting a few early photos and the heavens opened ...had to race back to shelter and read some more detail about the formationj of the wave and the aboriginal history of the area. Enough time elapsed and the water showed the rock off to it's best. The Esperance museum attendant was spot on..it looks much better with some water. Some of the signage at Wave Rock leaves a lot to be desired. Steep access is not clearly mentioned at the outset, barring of dogs doesn't seem to rate a mention until you are on the way up the rock; and advisory signs to keep people off the sloping areas of the wave could save accidents. we witnessed one visitor badly twist her knee while avoiding a puddle of water. Pedestrian access to the Hippo's yawn was prevented by large deep puddles after the shower of rain. Overall a great attraction well worth a visit if you're travelling nearby.

Nice sights but..
This is a long tour, but the sights makes it all worth it. However we had a guide and guide trainee, and unfortunately the main guide used a lot of time training the trainee instead of guiding. They used 15 minutes with all the passengers on board the bus to adjust the seat. Furthermore the driving was very unsafe, as the main guide bent over the trainee to teach him stuff while the trainee was driving. In other words he disturbed the trainees sight of the road which was very uncomfortable, as the trainee already were an unsteady driver.
Lunch were really not that good. It was the cheapest of the cheapest and not what you would expect for the money you spend on this tour.
For dinner they just stop at a gas station, so it is limited what kind of food you could get.
Our guides also made a mistake and mixed up the intinirary order, so we saw wawe rock as the last part before heading back towards Perth. This meant that the sun was going down when we got there, which was really a shame, as that was the main event of the trip. Still beautiful, but more difficult to get good photos without shadows

Worth the long drive
Mar 2019
If you are interested in unusual landform and formations then Wave Rock is well worth the drive. We were staying just outside of Perth and decided to take the 4 hour drive out there. The picture shown here is exactly the colours you see on arrival. To actually stand on it and wonder at its gradual creation over time is quite inspiring! A short walk around the circuit will take you to the Hippo's yawn or you can hop in your car and drive 100metres or so further along the road to the carpark of the Hippo Yawn. Be aware that the carpark at Wave Rock does have a pay and display parking fee but the Hippo Yawn carpark does not. There are 2 Visitor Information Centres...we went to the one opposite the Caravan Park and the two people working there were actually quite rude and we were told they were busy when seeking information. After walking along Wave Rock we called to the Information Centre at the Caravan Park across the road from the first one and found the young lady working there to be actually happy to serve us and provide information also.. There are toilets and table and chairs undercover in the Wave Rock carpark. Cabins are available in the Caravan Park if wishing to stay a night or two to fully explore the area. NB if you are not interested in amazing landscape, don't waste your time going here unless it is along or not far off your path of travel. It is one of those natural structures that once seen, you can strike off your list of things to see on your bucket list.
