- 1Explore Tikal. Abandoned more than 1,000 years ago and lost to the jungle until the 20th century, Tikal is now the crown jewel of ancient Maya cities. During it's heyday, Tikal had a large population of around 90,000 people and it's rulers dominated the region, regularly battling with nearby dynasties in the Caracol and Xunatunich (both in Belize) before mysteriously being abandoned around the late 800's CE. Today, Tikal is perhaps most famous for it's signature temples located in a grand central plaza. The tallest pyramid, dubbed Temple IV, rises more than 230 feet (70 meters) into the air. Built to celebrate the rain of Yik’in Chan Kawil, it is believed that this temple was built just one century before the entire city was abandoned. Several other pyramids are clustered around the grand central plaza, including the Temple of the Mask, the Temple of the Jaguar Priest, and the Temple of the Inscriptions. Other signature locations in central Tikal include the “Mundo Perdido” (Lost World) complex which has five different platforms, a large pyramid (known as the Great Pyramid for it's size), and an astronomical observatory.

- KimLB630 contributionsBest Hike! Amazing TimeWe enjoyed a very good hike at the cockscomb with Untame Belize. From the booking process with Hamerlin to the our guide everything was amazing. The guide showed us around, we saw some birds, crocodiles, and other wildlife. We did the river tubing and waterfall swim as well. Ended the day with a delicious belizean lunch. We also booked our family transfers from International AirPort to and from PLacencia.Written 12 August 2024

- jeanninel4550 contributionsSuper day in BelizeWe had a marvelous day with our tour to Xunantunich and the Inland Blue Hole. Charles was in charge and was so great. He would tell us history of each town as we drove through. I have a bad back and he would assist me with stairs and driving me as far as he could to the ruin's. He is a great asset to the company and I am glad to know him. Five stars!!!Written 29 April 2024
- Destination7234200 contributionsGreat Hike (but vigorous) with RickyOur guide, Ricky, picked us up at our hotel in Dangriga and drive us to the Preserve. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area in general and the local flora and fauna specifically. We were originally skeptical of the value given the cost but those concerns soon melted away. We needed Ricky to access the trail and it was totally worth it. The lunch was also delcious.Written 25 February 2024
- 360leslied0 contributionsBelize Nature Hike and River tubing!!If you like to get out in the jungle, see and hear the tropical birds, learn about the amazing Jaguar reserve and have a very tasty lunch, then book this trip! First of all, this company picks you up from your accommodation, which was a huge bonus since we were in Belize for a month and didn’t have a car, so we saved on taxis, which, of course, meant more for tips to the guides! Our driver, Charles, was so nice, professional and prompt. Our guide, William, was so knowledgeable! Our tubing down the river surrounded by nature, and likely a few nocturnal jaguars, was beautiful. We didn’t even mind getting caught in the rain, because it cooled us off and was gone as quick as it came! Highly recommend!Written 23 February 2024
- globalpaddler0 contributionsCockscomb/Cooking Class/Mayan Culture Center, a must doOne of the highlights of our Belize trip, was hiking through Cockscomb Basin with local Mayan guide, Benedicto Choc. Benedicto is a local Mayan who shared his extensive knowledge and passion of the areas plants and many unique birds. Ben's luv & deep understanding of nature, culture and the area, added a dimension that will remain in our memories for years to come. The hike to the waterfall was filled with visual & sound immersion from start to finish. The day previous, Benedicto's wife, Federica, graciously provided us a start to finish Mayan cooking experience at their home. Ingredients for our meal were all freshly picked by us with Ben's guidance from their garden. Federica took care of the chicken before we arrived. Our meal was delicious and the experience of learning to appreciate the process of Mayan cooking, was absolutely enjoyable. Again, an unforgettable experience. We also stopped at the Mayan Center to view locally made handycraft work which supports the community. We strongly recommend stopping by there. Benedicto's contact info is: benedicto_choc@yahoo.com. His cell on What's App is: +501-667-7780.Written 19 February 2024

- untameb0 contributionsAmazing Tour and ServicesMy family booked our Cockscomb Basin Tour with Untame Belize! Many companies offer this tour in Placencia but we decided on them due to the reviews and it was totally worthy. Our driver pick up is directly at our villa and was super friendly from the start. - rtrow0 contributionsFun Jungle and Culture adventure! We got picked up at our hotel, which is super nice! As we were in the jungle walking for the river tubing, our guide was super knowledgeable about the plants and animals. Ww floated down the river which was really fun and the guide directed the tubes for us so we can relax and look around. We hiked to a waterfall and we sawm for as long as we wanted. The water was warm and inviting. Then we were taken to a local Mayan village and we ate local Mayan food. We stopped at the Chocolate shop as well! It was a great day to explore and learn about the Mayan culture!Written 21 November 2023
- 2424mdavinh0 contributionsPlacencia_Xunantunich_CaveTubingFull day adventure from Placencia to Xunantunich to Jaguar Paw cave tubing back to Placencia. Ricky was an excellent guide; very personable, knowledgeable and friendly. We had 4 adults, 4 kids in a private van with water, lunch, AC, admission fees, and guide inclusive. A long day with lots of driving but doable. Doing it over, I'd have stayed 1-2 nights near Xunantunich and spent more time touring the ruins and less time driving. Untame was easy to work with, communication was great, payment was easy and secure and all in all a really enjoyable experience.Written 30 October 2023

My family recently took the full day tour from Hopkins to Tikal. Despite taking about 15 hours we had an amazing experience. Our guides, Rickie in Belize and Ronald in Guatemala, were very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional and told us many interesting facts throughout the day. Ronald was amazing at spotting all the wildlife in Guatemala, and without his expert eye we wouldn’t have seen so many spider monkeys, toucans, tarantulas, coatis, and even some jabiru storks!
Tikal is a truly unique site, set in the middle of the forest, and the memories of our trip will live with us forever. Thank you Rickie and Ronald for an unforgettable experience.
