Alaska Sled Dogs & Musher's Camp
    Stop: 3 hours
Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Musher’s Camp™ in Dyea. Next, hop into our specialized unimog for an exciting ride up our rugged mountain road, surrounded by glacially fed streams and waterfalls. At the top, your musher will greet you with a custom-designed wheeled summertime sled and a team of very excited Alaskan Huskies! Feel the power of these strong dogs as they whisk you down a mile-long, zig-zagging trail deep in the Tongass National Rainforest! After meeting your dog team, climb back into your unimog and enjoy the adventurous ride to a breathtaking overlook of the Dyea tidal flats. Depending on the month you just might see eagles, bears, seals, horseback riders, wild flowers, and of course snow-capped mountains. Your unimog will then bring you to what we like to call a “Kennel Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time we have gathered up the most frequently ask questions about the sport. In the Kennel Talk, we will share the fascinating answers and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to play with our puppies! Your affections actually socialize these future athletes, which is essential to their racing success. A crackling fire and a unique gift shop round out your visit. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting!

Great Experience All Around
Sep 2019
The tour was well organized and our guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. The ride to the dog run training track in the unimog was fun. But to have 16 dos pulling us around the track was fantastic. It's cool to see how excited they get to work and run. Also beautiful scenery on the way to and from the center of town for pickup and drop off.

So much fun!!
Sep 2019
Such a great experience. The knowledge of everyone involved (especially Thomas) in this experience were knowledgeable and great teachers. Took boring information and make it fun and interesting. He talked about the history of Skagway, the trials and tribulations related to the area as well as the dog sledding.

The dogs were very sociable and fun to watch. The sled ride was a hint of what the real racing is and it was so exciting to experience. Would do this excursion again without even thinking.

Aug 2019 • Family
Our two grandchildren (11&9) loved this exciting adventure. Grandpa and grandma (71&70) did too!!!
All phases of the tour were done exceptionally well. The staff were great, but the energetic loving dogs were the highlight
The tour was well worth the money. Thank you.

Kids favorite excursion!
Aug 2019
We went on the Sled Dog and Musher's Camp excursion. Chad, our guide, was very friendly and knowledgeable. The ride in the unimog up the hill to camp was fun, and our kids (ages 9 and 11) loved riding behind the dogs, petting the sled dogs, learning about mushing, and of course, petting the puppies.

Also beautiful scenery - saw salmon spawning and eagles at the lookout point. We would recommend.

A Trip Highlight
Aug 2019
This was a fun excursion in Skagway. From pick up to drop off everything was very well organized and informative. Spending time with our dog sled team as well as the puppies was most enjoyable. The puppies are so adorable!! The mushers provided a lot of information about how they care for and train the dogs, all most interesting and their passion for the sport of dog sledding and the animals themselves most evident.

Wonderful!
Aug 2019
Our driver picked us up in Skagway and drove us to the mushers' camp. He gave us lots of information on the way there and pointed out the natural wonders. Once there we were treated to a ride on the sled with the dogs pulling. The musher explained how she trained the dogs and what signals she gave. We then attended a presentation on races, and finally got to cuddle puppies. The driver even got us back to the ship in the nick of time.

Great Experience - Fun & Educational
Aug 2019
What a great experience from the bus ride to the camp, the beautiful natural scenery, learning about life in a mushers' camp, the humane treatment and lives of sled dogs from raising pups to "time-off" for the senior dogs, learning about the Iditarod race from the grandson of the race's founder, and an annual race participant, to the actual sled dog ride and meeting each member of the sled-dog team, great excursion that we highly recommend.

Loved this excursion from the moment of getting on the bus with the tour guides delivery of the history of the area, to going to the camp and hearing the daily routine of taking care of the dogs and training to the actual ride through the roads with the dogs leading the way. Well worth every minute.

Great Day!!
Eight of us were picked up at the cruise ship dock. It was easy to locate our contacts on the dock and our driver. Our driver shared lots of interesting information about the area on our drive to the camp. Our guides at the camp were informative and fun, also very organized. Loved the Unimog trip up the mountain, our ride with the dogs, and time with dogs at puppies. Information shared about the Iditarod was a good mix of general info and insider details. The day was well balanced- fun, photo ops, information, and time to shop. We would highly recommend it for people of any age!

Mushers Camp
Second visit had a great guide, Kevin, and wonderful experience. The ride up the mountain in the EMOG was worth the trip. Dogs were amazing. Energetic and VERY well cared for. Musher allowed our 12 year old grandson to ride on back of with him and call commands to the dogs. Made his day. Wonderful experience. Don’t miss the puppy experience handling the dogs
