Overview

Paddle through the bayous of Louisiana on this kayaking tour of the Manchac and Maurepas swamps. Trade the bustle of the Big Easy for the lush serenity of cypress forests located just a short drive away from New Orleans. No kayak experience is needed to enjoy a voyage through these lush, wildlife-rich wetlands. Optional transportation means you can visit without renting a car.

What to Expect

Depending on transport option selected, meet at the launch location or get picked up at a central New Orleans meeting point for the 45-minute drive outside the city. After a safety briefing and basic paddling instructions, climb aboard a tandem kayak and launch into the swamp with a guide and small group of no more than eight (single kayaks are available for odd-number groups).

Feel a world away from Bourbon Street as you paddle on the calm waters that wind through the moss-draped cypress forests of the Maurepas and Manchac swamps. During your approximately 2 hours on the water, learn about the wetland ecosystem and keep an eye out for native Louisiana wildlife including the famous American alligator.

Informative, educational, fun; got to appreciate Lousiana as a place rather than a man made party

I liked it so much I went twice! My first guide was Nick. He was so interesting and engaging, he took the time after the tour was over to spend a couple of hours on his own time sharing stories and history. The information and...More

Kayak the Manchac

There was 2 of us and we had a wonderful kayak trip. Don't remember the gentleman name but I wished that he stayed closer to all of us, but otherwise is very informative.

Great Kayak Tour!

The Manchac swamp tour was great. Very well organized. We were out on the water for the full 2 hours and saw a lot of wildlife including alligators, herons, and turtles. Highly recommend this tour to any local or visitor in the New Orleans area.

Kayaking swamps!

Honestly thought my husband was joking when he wanted to do this experience. Our family of 4 (youngest being 13) had a blast! We were all beginners at this but we have all found a new passion. Our guide Mike made us feel very comfortable...More

We absolutely loved our guide Nick and his wonderful tour of the swampland. We saw egrets and alligators and a magical swampscape. There were no biting bugs to speak of, and just a magical removal of the city. Would highly recommend and will go again...More

That is ok! In our group there was a family of four (two parents and two kids of about 8-10 years old) who were all first time kayakers. They all enjoyed the outing and didn’t seem to have difficulty, although the kids were... More
