Ted was an awesome guide for this evening. A lot of fun, outgoing and friendly. Ted is also very knowledgeable and told us some great stuff about prohibition and the city. We really enjoyed our night with him!

Some things that were not as good: The tour did not include what was supposed to be included such as free snack nor cocktail making lesson. We went to two bars after touring the city a bit. That was enjoyable but would have liked it to be more like the description. Basically we paid 50 bucks a person to learn about prohibition which was awesome but would’ve liked the other things we were supposed to get.

We had an awesome time and our guide Joe was great and very knowledgeable. We were provided snacks. We also received shots at all of the bars we visited. It was a very interesting tour and we learned a lot about the history of Philly.

Had a really good time. Our tour guide Ted was super funny and very informative! Learned more than I thought there was to know! I recommend this tour if you like some fun history about the city.

In order to make sure everyone reads this, I’ll just state the God’s honest facts:
- Beginning: Not as advertised! My mom spent close to $60 for four of us on the idea that each bar came with a free beer and shot. When this was NOT the case and she tried to clarify with Terry, our tour guide, he said “Is it really going to be a problem?” Uhh… yes, that’s false advertising.
- Got to the first bar. Terry spoke about some gangsters for 10 minutes and then the group sat around for an hour “enjoying” beers WE paid for.
- Terry passed out Dollar Tree snacks to everyone.
- Terry at one point actually forgot what he was saying. Was he asleep? Idk.
Went to the second bar: Terry says he’s going to “go inside and let them know we’re here.”
- As he’s inside the group notices a CLOSED sign on the window.
- Terry comes back and ACTUALLY says, “Sorry folks but there’s nobody in there.” WHAT!?
- Decides to take us to the third bar.
Third Bar:
- JJ’s Moonshine. Less of a “bar” and more of a college club. Music was thumping and the 20 people in the group were split up in tables all over the place. How were we supposed to hear a presentation, let alone ourselves?
- At this point Terry LEAVES us to go and find ANOTHER bar. Would he ever return?
- My group leaves, utterly disappointed and ripped off. “Terry” probably hit the road with his pockets stuffed.

Vincent, I spoke with your mom yesterday and pushed a refund immediately through for six tickets actually that she'd bought. If ever back in Philly you have absolutely free tours on us for anything you want to take with us…even multiple things if you wanted them. I’ve given your mother my personal cell number as hers was the only contact I’d had for your family. So text or call any time and I promise to do right by your family and you by putting you on multiple tours with different guides so you can have the experience you should have had a couple of days ago. And I do sincerely apologize. This was that particular guide’s first time doing the prohibition tour ever. We are quite honestly less concerned with getting a few dollars for ticket sales and more concerned with giving you the best experiences you could imagine. We’re very small, have a core crew of great teachers and others with history degrees and so do honestly bend over backward to do the right thing by our guests, and especially if you’ve gotten a newer less experienced guide we may have just brought on as you’d gotten. Just to be clear though, and I apologize that Terry hadn’t been able better to articulate your misreading of this; our advertising on Viator where you'd purchased does say a beer, a shot, and a snack: not three beers, three shots, and three snacks. And I know you’d left before you’d gotten the beer, as you’d said. In any case do please accept the full refund, the free tours any time you are back and our sincerest apology, most importantly. This does not happen very often to us and we promise to do all in our power to make things right by your family and you at no cost to you whatsoever any time weather next month or in ten years whenever you are back around. Your mom has my cell number and personal email…and our office manager knows to comp tours to you if you reach out just to our general email on the site. Anything more I can do please do not hesitate to ask and consider it done. Warmest regards, Joe

I only write this after trying to settle the issue "offline" with the owner.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
Our family scheduled the 2.5 hour prohibition tour for a Saturday afternoon - 20 people. We started at Indepence hall and within 10 minutes, stuff was not right. The fun bar crawfish type event was turned upside down with this guy's interest in historical sex.
Fortunately, the 1st stop was one block away at Rotten Ralph's. We settled at a couple tables and proceeded to wait over an hour for our special drink. While he fumbled behind the bar making this, our time was wasted. Seriously Zero value from Grim.
After 2 + hours at the one bar, with one awful drink, our time scheduled time was out. He assumed we were hanging around for another couple hours just for him?
Our party was out over 500 dollars, no refund offered, and only text messages exchanged (ie did not return phone calls)
Since we paid mostly cash, we are out SO dont make the same mistake! If you see this guy, run.

Mr. Floyd, I get that you spent more on your wife’s lunch than you’d have otherwise preferred. I am sorry about that for you. I am. Truly. But again, I did not order your wife’s food or drink her drinks. And asking reimbursement (via text message) for expenses ranging from as paltry as toll booths, to parking lots, to the drinks your wife ordered and drank to the food she ordered and ate, to the entire lunch bill for everyone present that was her decision entirely to ask us to arrange for her is, well a semi-reasonable person might come to the conclusion: curious…considering that the restaurant was only arranged for the group by us because we were asked to by your wife to make those arrangements for her. But, as you text message at least, you would like us to pay for that now? Because the bill was higher than you wanted? I certainly do not mean to be elementary here, but if you wish to avoid tolls, or parking, or lunch bills: it would be advisable moving forward not to drive over bridges, or visit any cities (anticipating you would be required to pay for parking in those) or eat at restaurants (most of them do actually charge for the food believe it or not). And we again, arranged this for no other reason than we were asked to arrange that. By your wife. Let’s be honest with ourselves: your “review” here is not a “review” though really at all. How could it be after all? You were not ever there. You had no part in planning the bachelorette; which is what it was. And seem very lost about the nature of any arrangements or anything as simple as the starting location of it (the Visitor Center and definitely not at Independence Hall) the theme of it (sex, and not prohibition), the length of the walk (5 blocks and not one block): other than the cost of lunch of course, which you’ve let the internet know you have been very much displeased with. This was not a prohibition tour. This was a bachelorette. Which, Walter, is geared to—and this may come as a surprise to you—but yes: sex. I realize you write this—essentially ‘fake’ review (considering you say you were there when you clearly were not; unless you’d disguised yourself as one of the ladies there…and from there continued to remain oblivious of your surroundings). Your wallet assumedly open for it though I can see clearly your unhappiness with sex as the bachelorette party topic, which lends of course here to the at best exaggerative, at worst make-believe venting of someone (yourself that is) who was never present…but paying for a portion of the event, I will assume at least. So, allow me to, again…and for anyone here reading, provide just a basic rundown of what was actually arranged with us beforehand. Which was, again, not a prohibition tour. But: a bachelorette. And, a little bit of a tamer one at that considering the multi-generational nature of the group. After immediately beginning with pre-packaged “Sex on the Beach” and “Alabama Slammer” giveaways for marriage and courtship trivia—ie where do things come from: wedding rings, wedding bells, honey moons, significance of ring fingers…ring fingers to do with Voodoo love spells; tying the knot as a term; various aphrodisiacs, significance of wedding dress colors in different cultures; pagan courtship et cetera—we then hit a 1776 era brothel and talked dirty sex in 1776 before heading over six blocks—yes Walter six blocks (not one)—to the restaurant we were asked to arrange a lunch where we would change it up to ‘romantic’ love…kama sutra, tantra, concept of soul mates etc. The ladies were talking very loud there and I’d had the attention of 25% them at best so cut shorter than expected to let them chat as they seemed to prefer. The 2 $45 bottles of cognac alone as well as the Grand Mariner and rest of the ingredients including 45 minutes juicing fresh lemons and oranges from scratch to make a top shelf historical elixir (America’s very first mixed drink) that can absolutely not be ordered at any tavern in this city anywhere; not even at the tavern where we were other than the fact that I made this one personally for the bachelorette (I do not work at the bar obviously; though they allow me to do the one drink demonstration for our private tours when we have reserved the private space with them). It’s strong. Tasty. Time consuming to create. And very…I repeat very expensive to make. To say nothing of the time involved in doing so: which is the reason taverns simply do not offer this anymore. So again Walter--and I did not until recently even know your name as you refused to tell it to me when you’d initiated text messaging with me—we’d arranged the bachelorette exactly as we’d been requested. Only ladies were present. You are not a lady. And you were not there. That said I do very very much sympathize with you Walter that you did not want sex discussed at the bachelorette with the ladies in your family. From what I gather from you, you had footed a good portion of this event out of your own kindness and generosity. I’d already, during the bachelorette, told the bride and maid of honor that as our wedding gift to them and for sharing their special day with us that they and any of the bridesmaids with any other guests if they’d wanted were welcome to absolutely free tours on the house with us whenever they’d like. And that because we’d arranged drinks at two of the other bars after the lunch that the group was leaving early before heading over to with us because they’d made overlapping reservations that all of them could head on out either together or separately to any one of the pub crawl themes we offer absolutely free of charge. On our Facebook Live video of this bachelorette the ladies Walter are really quite happy. You may want to give it a look at? As it will be the closest thing you’ll see of the bachelorette since again you were not there. The city is more expensive than the suburbs Walter. I am sorry. Restaurants cost a little more. There are bridge tolls as you’ve pointed out. And parking as you’ve pointed out also. Most things on the Ralph’s menu are literally ten bucks. So we did try to find a location that was the most reasonable there. And we honestly bend over backward to accommodate any way we can. Weather that’s making reservations for groups, arranging custom itineraries; or making amends if anything does go wrong. In this case, we most definitely delivered on services requested and arranged with us including arranging the historical sex and love portions with one of our r-rated professors together that we’d arranged with your wife, reserving a private restaurant area for the group; spending lots of care to craft a historical beverage the wholesale cost of liquor and ingredients being substantial. Not to mention the time setting up, making arrangements, and logistics on the day of. If we’d have done something wrong, not delivered something promised, that would be an entirely different situation. Having incurred personal costs and delivered on everything expected—as well as having been frankly awesome with happy giving away of freebees for no other reason than just because—the husband of the woman making arrangements (who hadn't been there or spoke to us once) requesting for us to take a full out loss because he did not like that sex was the (agreed-upon) topic of the bachelorette and his wife’s credit card bill was higher than he may have otherwise preferred for her lunch is not a viable request. Attempt this line of faulty reasoning on the local auto mechanic, the Maytag repairman, British Airways, Disney World, or any number of other places after services were rendered and I doubt that most would bother even to respond in this type of detail how clearly unreasonable and unfair this request even is.

The tour guide shows up and begins the tour on time. He was very knowledgeable. We get to the first bar where we get a free shot but must pay for anything else we order. The tour guide leaves and sets up our next two stops. We moved on to the 2nd place where we get nothing free as advertised and by this time we are starving so we ordered food and drinks and again pay. In addition we’re give shots in tubes handed to us under the table because it’s not allowed in the bar and it’s illegal on the street. Finally at the last bar we are promised snacks and again get a free shot. The snacks we’re Snyder’s pretzels from the gas station. If you’re willing to pay for the tour just for the commentary that never stops this is the tour for you! You get no beer and cheap snack and 2 shots and some illegal shots handed to you in the sly.

6 of us really enjoyed our Saturday night Prohibition Pub Crawl. Joe was our guide and he was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable and made the night fun. He offered us more shots than was stated in the brochure. We also could win a shot in a vile by answering questions. This was a fun night in the city and I would highly recommend it.

Ted was great! He’s very knowledgeable and enjoys what he’s doing. This is for sure the “grownup” version of the tour, so if swearing or stories of scandal bother you, it’s not for you.
The historical info is partly what you learn in school but with all the juicy details, plus extra stories about corruption, crime, and prohibition. We didn’t get a cocktail lesson, exactly, but we did get a free drink and he told us the history of it, what was in it, and why. We went to 3 bars with drink specials at each. Each was a different scene/vibe, which I always appreciate.
I would absolutely do another Grim Philly tour!!
