- markfL2436GA0 contributionsDisgusting place to eatNot really sure why you would put up with such poor quality service, food and value for your dollar... After walking down from 28th/6th, through central park and then around your very interesting and well laid out Museum, feeling very hungry/thirsty.. We were directed down to the cafe on the lower floor... Not really sure what to expect as nothing at all was priced up we picked a ham bun and a cheese bun/ sandwich .. 1 coffee, 1 can of coke and 1 pack of crisps/chips.. total price Inc taxes $48..... Shocked and sickened . The bread was stale the coffee tasted like crap... And the decor and general hygiene of the seating area was disgusting.... Why do you also put up with miserable servers/cleaners and even a manger looked unhappy. .. do not eat there.Written 6 March 2024
- boydj3950 contributionsFascinated by the Dinosaurs ExhibitA rainy Sunday in New York, the museums were very popular. The line up outside the Natural History Museum stretched back past the subway station. We were prepared in that we had pre-booked tickets and this shortened the amount of time it took to get in considerably. We weren't aware that some of the best experiences (National geographic movies etc) required additional tickets. It didn't matter , the museum is mammoth and the scale of some of the panoramas is astounding. My main reason for wanting to go was the Dinosaurs floor. The best collection I've ever seen, and the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton on display anywhere in the world - worth the price of admission alone.Written 28 February 2024

- CumbrianDan0 contributionsFabulous.Woah - absolutely fabulous. Everything is 'just right' - the exhibits are incredible, the staff are very knowledgable and the building is fabulous. Everything has its own place and it doesn't feel over-crowded or under-resourced in any exhibition. I had planned to spend an hour here - but, I ended up spending four. Floor after floor and exhibition after exhibition had something incredible that really caught my eye. I could have spent the full day here. I arrived just before lunch time so used their on-site cafe. The quality of the food was very good; and there appeared to be a huge variety. However, the cost was expensive - and, if you had a family, could soon add up. A must if you're in New York.Written 15 January 2024

- Suzanne D0 contributionsHave a Plan and Buy Tickets Online Through AMNHWe went right smack in the middle of Christmas and the New Year, so prime busy time. From other reviews, we were anticipating entry to be a mess. We did buy our tickets online about a month ago directly through the museum. I made a mistake with my email address, but is easily remedy with a phone call. There are no signs and no one was directing people. There are also no separate lines for those who already have tickets. We used the entrance that was noted on our tickets which was much shorter than the one wrapped around the building. We still had a wait. We showed up around 9:30 for a 10 entry ticket. Some exhibits were much better than others. Overall, I wish we had days instead of hours because there is a lot of good information and items to dive into.Written 29 December 2023
- BSF-Lx0 contributionsNightmare at the MuseumThe museum is great, but the admission process is utterly chaotic. With pre-booked and timed admission, you have to wait for hours in the rain to get in an overly crowded space that renders the visit a nightmare. Only greed can explain why so many daily tickets are sold, way beyond the capacity of the museum.Written 28 December 2023
- DavidD4900 contributionsIf you go, get tickets from the museum directly. Not a great experienceI came on 12/27 around 10 and had a 45 minute wait to get inside. On top of that, there's a separate process for people who purchase a voucher from a third party (e.g., trip advisor). Neither TripAdvisor nor the museum make this clear. In fact, TripAdvisor says to go to the theater to redeem. I arrived at the theater and I asked if I should get in line while showing my voucher and they told me to get in line instead of explaining the process of redeeming the voucher. It was close to an hour to get into the museum itself, between the line and redeeming the voucher. The overall experience was a bit of a let down. I wouldn't do it again and I wouldn't recommend it unless you're crazy about museums. They have a nice gift store, though. The museum's mobile app is also useful.Written 27 December 2023

- H1271TOelizabethe0 contributionsWorth it for the dinosaur exhibitsWe visited the museum on a Saturday and this was a mistake. It was super busy full of children running riot and also very warm inside. We booked with city pass to have a time of 11am to enter however this didn’t make much difference as you still have to queue with everyone else and validate your ticket at the counter. It did include a an additional exhibit you would have to pay for and we chose the planetarium show. This was interesting as were the dinosaur exhibits but otherwise it wasn’t anything spectacular unfortunately. In NYC there are plenty of other attractions more worth your time and money.Written 27 December 2023
- cocojambo180 contributionsGreat museum. Awful, awful, awful digital entry experience. Forget your appointment time, it’s meaningless. The museum itself is good and a decent experience. Certainly like London is worth a visit. It was of course busy and quite hot in there, so I’d plan for taking off coats etc. our teenager kids enjoyed going around and it was a good last activity for us on our visit to New York. The reason for my 3/5 is the entry system is honestly one of the worst designed digital experiences that I have ever had the misfortune to use. As someone that works in tech, it is really frustrating to see such a badly designed system. We used our CityPass tickets for this attraction, which has been brilliant for every other thing we’ve done. Here… it’s terrible. You book a time slot through the museum website, which honestly is a waste of time. You just join the queue outside like everyone else. Then once you get in, you have to go and either queue for the City Pass terminals, or if that queue gets long, the aggressive staff (very aggressive and rude) force you to queue in the “ticket sales” line to get your ticket validated. What possible purpose is there for validating an already purchased ticket? We actually ended up jumping back out of that line after about 30 mins of barely moving and using the City Pass terminals. But even then, it simply emails you tickets. Why this extra step? What possible benefit is there of validating an already purchased ticket? This should all be able to be achieved digitally before you arrive. It’s antiquated and as a system/process whoever designed it needs some conversations. I’d rather it was an honest system of you all have to queue up, buy a ticket and then go in. At least you know what you are in for. Any digital experience that has too many steps fails. And this is a failed system. The above ruined the experience. It cost us an hour on our last day, when we had limited time.Written 27 December 2023
- Departure287184434540 contributionsIf you have watched 'Night at the Museum', you must go here!We did a very quick tour of the museum as my teenage children were not that interested! However, they were interested in looking for the characters from 'Night at the Museum' and also seeing where Ross Geller from Friends worked! I would have liked to have spent longer in the museum. There were also many exhibits for younger children.Written 17 December 2023

I visited NYC for the first time and one of the things I wanted to do was visit this museum and I must say the experience was nothing but great.
The museum is quite big and has so many exhibits, with your ticket you have a choice of chosen one of the special experiences and the one I chose was the "Worlds Beyond Earth" it was such an wonderful experience, if you have to choose I'd recommend this one you won't be disappointed.
There was one cons, it was really hard to navigate around the museum and i think this is one of the reason I didn't get to see more exhibits.

A comprehensive and generally really interesting museum.
Plan to spend the whole day there and even then have to prioritise what you see.
The dinosaurs, life in the oceans, the tectonic plate/earthquakes, and mammals sections are real highlights. Most displays are both modern in their styling and comprehensible without being dumbed-down, the odd section like American Forests is old fashioned but mostly they are great.
Serval café options, the coffee in the cafeteria is actually quite nice unlike most museum coffee (and most coffee in the U.S. – I am Australian and used to much better quality coffee).
Expensive for a family, $100+ entry plus food is expensive. Plus some extra shows to pay for too.
We paid for a movie called ‘Beavers’ which was a half hour long but the actual core footage and material could have been covered in 5 minutes – the rest was just filler. On top of that, it was a poorly produced movie from the 1990s, which I though was poor form – there must be newer movies to run.
You have to get a timed entry – you have to book a date and time for entry, and pay for your entry up front, with no refunds.
I recommend you go on a day when you can book the 10am first entry – it gets really busy when all the school kids and the families with strollers arrive.
Also getting a timed entry doesn’t mean you just walk straight in – when we arrived at 10am the line to get into the museum was 100 metres long down the street. The bottleneck was security. Allow for 15 minutes or more in your planning.
All in all worth going to, with a few irritations.

The best, largest and most comprehensive museum I've ever visited.
During the pandemic, only visitors who have been vaccinated are allowed to enter. It doesn't matter where the vaccination is done in any country as long as proof of vaccination is shown to the staff.
it's better to buy admission tickets well in advance because the queues are very long even when the new museum is about to open. Entering this museum is like entering three or four different museums.
When I arrived, the museum was also a mass vaccination location, but whether it was only for American citizens or foreign tourists, I don't really understand.

Got there at our allotted time having booked it on the pass to find we had to queue for 30 mins to get tickets
We also wanted to do the Hayden Planetarium but we’re told this was an additional $12 per person and our tickets only had a value on the New York pass of $16 rather than the regular admission price of $23.
We got into the planetarium with high hopes for the show. Managed to get seats down the front too. Boy we’re we wrong to do that, the seats don’t recline AT ALL so had to sit with our necks right back which wasn’t great.
The show itself was interesting but now awe inspiring. I myself fell asleep during it (which may have been the darkness comfortable chair and aircon)
The exhibits were good but a lot of them suffer from looking outdated now.
We were also forced to wear masks round the whole museum and even in the planetarium. No where else we’ve been while here has made us do this
Overall it was poor Vs what we expected

Museum - 5/5
Food - 3/5
Service - 1/5
Museum :
The museum itself was brilliant , Really educational and covers natural history from all times and ages.
This is a museum suitable for all ages and has some really interesting artifacts.
Food :
The food itself was average and decently priced compared to some of the other places to eat in New York. However , The tables in the food court were not very clean and it was chaos trying to find a table due to the large amounts of people.
Service :
Service was the only thing that Museum lacked , The staff were very rude in all departments of the museum and this experience would be much more enjoyable if the staff weren't so blatantly rude and more welcoming.
The second I walked through the doors of the museum I wasn't aware of the mask rules and had my mask on , but under my nose. If I was to of been alerted that masks were mandatory on the way in I would of worn it normally but thought they were optional on arrival. Although , I was soon alerted that masks were mandatory when a member of staff didn't ask me to wear it correctly , but instead shouted "MASK" in my face 🤗
I moved my mask up and just assumed she was having a bad day and moved on 🤷🏻♂️
Then after queing to get to the booths , we handed our tickets to the member of staff who asked us if the reservation name was correct , I didn't hear the question originally so asked her "pardon ?" before she shouted the question down the microphone word by word like I was an alien. All this was before we'd even entered the museum.
Then after viewing the first and second floors we went to the food court , We had to walk around the food court 3 times to find a table which is when a member of staff accused us of not paying for the food , we explained to him that we had payed and he refused to believe us.
Eventually he walked off and we found a table which was filthy and had just been left , A cleaner came over to the table with a cloth before we sat.
He stared at the table for around 5 seconds with the cloth in his hand , Although we expected him to clean it he just turned around and walked off 😂
We then found another table.
Overall , this is a great museum and I'd recommend it to anyone passing by , The only issue here is the staff and they definitely need to sort out this issue 😣

Coming from the UK, I have high standards when it comes to natural history museums, with London's being one of the finest anywhere. This one, however, did not disappoint. With only a morning to explore, we didn't have a chance to look at all the exhibits, but what we did see was great. We focused more on the ethnography and anthropology galleries (one difference from London's natural history museum, which doesn't have such exhibits - the equivalents are in the British Museum) than the animals or dinosaurs, but did take a look at some of those. I loved the dioramas in the animal exhibits - we don't get those so much in UK museums, and where we do they aren't anywhere near as good as the ones in NY. The other thing that I'd really recommend to visitors is just to look at the details of the building, especially the interior of the entrance hall. Very well worth a visit, but allow plenty of time.

Not impressed. I waited in 2 lines for an hour and 40 minutes. I purchased my tickets from a 3rd party (Expedia city pass), and we were required to wait in line to get our 2:30 reservation turned into a ticket, waiting with others trying to get their tickets from the museum. I got to the museum at 2:05, hoping to get in for my reservation at 2:30. I got through the line at 3:45. The museum has been open for 150 years, but still can’t figure out tickets. Once I finally got through the line, seeing people leaving left and right, we walked through tens of people scattered across the floor of the lower level. After I passed through, I entered a busy, cramped stairwell between the lower level to the 1st floor. The museum heavily recommends using the explorer app, their navigation app so you can get directions to different exhibits of the museum. The idea is good, but the museum has most routes travel through gift shops, to make you tempted to buy. Not to mention, there are gift shops everywhere. Too many gift shops, and plenty of random exits. Back to the maps, the app is 10 seconds behind your current location, and randomizes the direction your phone is facing. If you are lost due to the random directions, you would expect signage to guide you. Nope. There is little to no signing, and what is there is bad. For the good things, the exhibits were fascinating, and I learned a lot about different indigenous cultures from different parts of the world. There are also interesting animal exhibits, though I didn’t learn much there. There are 4 specials exhibits that you have to pay extra to get into, and I didn’t appreciate that. This caused me to not get a full experience. I am not sure what happened at the museum today, a Wednesday in the early afternoon, but I hope it doesn’t happen in the future. I only recommend if there is evidence that the ticket line issue has been resolved.

It is a museum, or better one of the Museums! I cannot find a reason why someone should not visit an educational institution.
We opted for the "pay what you want" and offered to pay 10$ for two people. If you are travelling to NY and visiting as many museums as you can, you need this option!

Sold me entrance to museum but not a reservation to enter the museum therefore unable to enter the museum got soaked in the rain. To be told that I could not enter because I didn’t reserve space to enter the museum in the museum website due to COVID-19 protocols so your voucher was useless need refund to be process immediately. Please don’t sell any vouchers

We planned the day with reservations to take in all four exhibits and movies above. The pacing was perfect and we were able to see many exhibits as well. Although parking at the museum is expensive, it was worth the convenience and basically on par with other local lots.
Yes, masks are still required and reservations to keep everyone healthy inside the exhibits and less crowded.
We loved the new Wings movie - all about bird migration in the US. The new Shark exhibit was fun and interactive. And the cafeteria is open again.
We are already thinking about our next trip back with our grandson. Lots of strollers and families out and about, school groups too.

Do you mean *just* for the ticketed exhibition? I don't think so, no. You have to buy genera entry tickets and when you purchase those, add on the specific ticketed entry exhibitions you require.

I agree that you should call the museum and ask them. If you have booked your tickets for that date, you should be part of the “fully booked” group.
