What a great experience. Dale, our tour guide was very informed and familiar with the Amish and Mennonite customs as he was raised and taught school in the area. Highly recommend this tour if you really want something more than the normal tourist trap tours that other companies offer. This tour offers up close and personal interaction with real, working Amish farms.

I thought this tour met our objective, which was to get a taste of Amish life. I wanted to do a tour so we could have access to more farms (my husband is really interested in farming) and have a guide that could drive us around with easy entry and to answer questions. Definitely our guide has a lot of knowledge on the area. There were 5 stops. 3 were not public access and I thought it was cool to see the farm used to film the movie Witness. The other two personal farms were interesting in that a sweet boy was there to talk to us (bird houses for sale) and the other we could be around the family who was working hard at their dairy business. The other 2 farms were commercial businesses for tourists, the ice cream shop and the souvenir shop/pretzel stand. The ice cream was absolutely delicious….just thinking about it now, I wish I could go back. The souvenir shop was meh and the pretzel was good, but I’ve had better.

In general, it was an enjoyable, easy afternoon in a comfortable van with good conversation and information.

An observation not directly related to the tour company…I don’t know how long Amish country will really be an alternative living community to see and understand. There were so many families that have power (some because of legal regulations for their products), solar, but also electricity, and cell phones, and mechanical farming equipment. I do understand that technology does infiltrate many, I was just wondering if things are really different in Amish country these days.

Thanks for the generally positive and very comprehensive review. We take all feedback seriously. We are happy to hear you appreciated the access and information we provide. We also understand that sometimes different guests have different impressions of the various stops. We take note of yours. While there are certainly some concessions made by the Amish over time, some due to necessity and others that are adopted because they just make sense to them, the Amish still remain a very culturally unique group of people and we expect they will be for a long time. Knowing them as we do, we appreciate the tension they feel between successfully existing in the 21st century while trying earnestly to maintain their culture.

The experience was enjoyable for all from a 9 year old to a 79 year old. Mike is a local boy who loves to share his knowledge of Lancaster County and the people who live there. While our experience was an immersion into the Amish farm way of life, we also learned about the Mennonites and their origins too.
The use of earphones made it very easy to hear our guide as we road through the back roads of Lancaster County and stopped at 3 farms and two stores where we had ice cream cones and pretzels and other tasty delights as well as local snacks we could purchase.
The animals at the farms were a delight for all of us to see and interact with. Even the farm dogs were friendly. We learned a lot about milk; organic, reduced fat, no fat, and how some make better ice cream than others. We're changing our milk purchase preferences.
The time went by so quickly and we all wanted to return to have a meal with our new Amish friends arranged by loKal Experiences.

My favorite part of the experience was seeing the big work horses and cows at the dairy farm. Also seeing Amish built buildings, and visiting an Amish home .The ice cream and pretzels was also a nice treat, and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of Amish culture, and also very friendly.

Our tour guide Dale was so knowledgeable about the area and is a Lancaster born local. He is a former teacher who was very well spoken and packed a lot of information into our time with him. There was so much that we didn't know about the area. It was nice to see the not so commercial spots in Lancaster as well.

We have done Amish tours before, but we really enjoyed this one because Mike was an extremely knowledgeable guide who has lived among the Amish for many years. His perspective was different in the fact he didn’t just tell us about the Amish culture, he knew then personally and because of that, we were able to actually interact with some of them at their homes. It was definitely a more immersive experience than the other tours we have done. Highly recommend.

Surprisingly good tour. The guide was very knowledgeable, and there was an historical depth to his running narrative, which was very engaging. Very genial chap, too (enjoyable to spend time with), and he clearly has some great connections to the Amish community.

Mike was a very engaging tour guide who provided lots of information about the Amish community while taking us to real houses where he was friends with the owners. We saw a dairy farm, many barns and stables , and had some amazing ice cream and soft pretzels (which he paid for, as a nice gesture). We highly recommend this tour !

Best part of trip was our tour guide Dale. He was extremely knowledgeable about Amish (and Mennonite) history as well as current ways of life. We visited at least five working Amish farms and met and spoke with some of the families. Also this tour was a great value for the money spent.

We went on this tour and it was simply amazing. Our tour guide Dale was a walking encyclopedia on “everything Amish/Mennonite.” He truly made the tour a success. We went off the beaten path and toured authentic working Amish homes & farms. Even visited the Amish farm where the movie “Witness” starring Harrison Ford was filmed. The air-conditioned van was clean & comfortable adding to our enjoyment of the experience. There are plenty of tours out there that take you to the tourist trap stores but this isn’t one of them. Have no reservations in taking this tour!
