During our tour, we met with a dairy farmer (while his sons milked the cows), a leather harness maker, and chatted with a family of six. Each visit lasted an hour, and we really had a chance to gain some understanding of how these folks work, live, and think. They were generally curious about "the English" as well, and asked quite a few questions to better understand us. There was nothing staged about our interactions, our hosts were all very genuine, thoughtful, engaged. I could not recommend this tour more highly, if you are interested in communicating with a few locals. I regret that we did not read a little more about the Amish history and culture in advance; this might have added even more to the experience.

If you have time for only one activity while enjoying the Amish culture, make it the "Farmlands Tour" with the Amish Experience. DeAnna, our farmlands tour guide, was a delight. She was informative, professional, patient, knowledgeable, and well-worth our time and money (although you will find the cost very budget friendly). As retired teachers, my wife and I are very appreciative of a well-versed and well-spoken professional. DeAnna did not disappoint. She reflected a genuine love and respect for the Amish. She willingly listened, answered questions, and imparted many uncommon facts about this PA Dutch Community. We always spend a few vacations days per year in this area, and are looking forward to bringing family and friends with us to enjoy the Amish Experience as well.

We bought tickets for VIP amish experience thinking that would have been something touristic . Instead it has been a great surprise. You can really be part of amish life for 3 hours. Our guide Joe was amazing to tell us informations about amish life and he answered to all our questions. I highly recommend this experience especially for the last hour that you can spend in the house with an amish talking and asking about amish culture, life and religion.

I would definitely recommend this tour to anybody that wants a unique, up close and personal experience with the Amish. Joe was our tour guide and driver and he was very informative (and funny). We first visited a merchant who builds carriages and were able to ask him questions and learn about his business. Next we sat with an Amish couple in their home and were able to learn about their family and way of life in an open dialogue. Our last stop was to an Amish farm where we learned about the cow milking process and farm operation. Keep in mind that you should not take pictures of the Amish themselves, but we were allowed take pictures of the merchant’s business and the farm. If in doubt, ask them first. This was a fantastic experience.

It's hard to overstate how informative and enlightening this tour is! It started with our guide, Kent, giving his history in this area and his contact with the people we are visiting. He has been friends with them for years and knows them and their families intimately. As he drove us around he would give the names and histories of families whose house we had passed and the differences between the different groups of Mennonites and Amish in the area, this in and of itself was a good tour of the area.
Our first stop was an organic dairy farm, the owner, was a quiet man who was happy to show us the in's and out's of his business and his family.
Second was a carriage maker, a much more boisterous man with a wry sense of humor. The carriages we in various states of assembly and all of the options and types of carriages (and sleighs) were there to see. The craftsmanship was amazing and the options were things I (in my ignorance of the Amish) would have never imagined.
Our last stop was an Amish home, our host was a small, fireball of a woman who was a nonstop flow of her family, her beliefs and her way of life. I could have stayed all night getting to know her and her 3 daughters that were so happy to talk with us, answer questions and make us feel welcome in their home.
This is an absolute MUST if you are in the area, don't let the price or the time fool you, you will come away a changed person and will want to do it again the next time you are here.

I'm so glad you picked up on the different personalities among the Amish stops. Just goes to show how there is variety and a range of styles among the people - from the outside the Amish may seem stoic, but when you visit, you get a chance to see their humor and humanity.

Over the years, despite living overseas, we have visited the Amish Country countless times. It is one of our favorite places. But never have we had the experience we had on the Amish Experience VIP tour in which we met with three Amish families, on the farm, on a business and at home. It was a unique and enlightening experience and one that provided a perspective and understanding we have never had before. Our tour guide, Jay, was also fantastic. He was knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating and added a significant additional layer to the already excellent experience. We highly recommend taking this tour for anyone interested in gaining a personal and authentic experience in Lancaster's Amish Country.

This was truly an amazing VIP Amish experience. We booked the 5 PM three hour tour where our driver and guide Bruce took a group of 13 to three different working Amish farms including a dairy farm, a leather worker, and at our last stop the family brought us into their home to sit and visit and to ask them any questions. Bruce our guide was top notch. Don’t miss it.

I loved being able to talk in-person with Amish families. We learned so much that we would have never been able to learn without talking directly to these families. Hearing from a 15 year old boy about his experience milking cows was inspiring. The last family that we went to their house, it wasn't like a tour but more like a visit with family friends. We didn't want to leave. Beth did a great job answering our 100 questions and working with us as we took a lot of young children with us.

This tour was my favorite part of visiting Lancaster because we actually got to visit and talk with Amish people. When you go to Amish Village, Amish Farm, Amish Theatre, etc., you are learning about the people from the "English,", but it all feels rather touristy and not so authentic. On this tour, we got to visit and hear from Amish people themselves on how they run their farms, cottage industries, and so forth. My favorite part was the final stop, the home visit. I didn't want it to end, other than the fact that I needed to go to the bathroom. That is my only caution--there are no bathroom breaks for the 3+ hours. We were warned ahead of time, but our visit ran long (which I was happy about), and I was anxious to return for that reason only. Also, if stairs or standing is difficult for you, this may not be the right trip. In the second workshop, we went upstairs, and we stood at all places listening until the last stop. At the last stop, we got to sit and chat in an Amish home with an Amish family. This was the BEST part of the tour and I want to do it again for that part alone. Kent, our tour guide, was the other best part of this tour. He is good friends with many of the Amish people in this community and you could tell he loved and respected them. It was great to learn about them from his loving point of view.
I wanted to get his number so I could ask him where to find the authentic Amish shops and stands to visit, since it's hard to find those online. He drew a map for my mom to visit an authentic quilt shop the next day, but unfortunately, it was closed for Good Friday. We didn't think about that in planning our trip, so keep that holiday in mind if you travel in April. I recommend this tour and can't wait to go do it again on my next visit! One more thing...I recommend this for adults. I'm not sure children would appreciate and value it the same way.

This tour is fantastic! Prior to discovering the Amish Experience In-Person Tour, I had hoped to be able to meet with Amish people directly to learn more about their life. Then, lo and behold, I saw an add for this in our hotel guidebook. My wish to get up close and personal with the Amish was answered and yours will be, too, if you take this tour!

Our tour guide, Kent, was great and shared a lot of helpful information about the Amish. Our trip included a visit to an Amish dairy farm and a cabinetmaker. The third stop—and my absolute favorite—was visiting with an Amish couple and their four children. We sat in their kitchen for about an hour and were able to ask them questions and discuss their life and beliefs. They were so warm, open and welcoming. It was an absolutely wonderful experience!

If you want to learn more about the Amish in a real and authentic way, take this tour. It's memorable!
